Before you all think the worst, due to an increase in weight on both sides, the bed base is broken! Yesterday I looked at one of those new beds with the memory foam topped mattress - it felt sooo comfy but do they really work? Has anyone bought one in the last year and are you happy with it? It's a lot of money to pay out if the foam collapses after a while so thought I would ask if anyone has test-driven one first. Polite comments only please - others in a plain brown envelope LOL ------ NEW BED ARRIVING TODAY (Tues) MEMORYFOAM TOPPED MATTRESS - early night tonight for me to try it out!

I redecorated my mums bedroom for her birthday last May and she treated herself to a new bed and one of those mattresses whilst we were on. Mum's always only managed a few hours sleep a night due to being uncomfortable and restless - she now sleeps about 7 hours every night and only wakes up if she needs the loo! Really made a difference to her life.

We have a top of the range Slumberland and we are biiiig! He is 6'8' and I am appropriately far too large. Not a hippo and a duck, just two hippos. After two years ours is still blissfully comfortable and feels just as it did when we bought it.We hate getting up!

I have one of the mattresses that you mention. Yes, its very comfy but I find the downside is that it makes me very hot. I never have heating on in the room and use a summer weight duvet all the year round. I think it must be because it is pure foam and not sprung. Margaret

Thanks for your help folks - the Slumberland is one of those we were looking at cos it's on offer at the mo. and also one at Sleepmasters similar price so will decide tomorrow. Asked the salesman about the heat problem and he said he would throw in a thinner duvet for us - ours is a new 15 tog one bought for the winter. Would love to wake up feeling refreshed for a change - maybe I'd get more done then. Cheers, Liz

nudging for Joy - we have had this bed for around 9 months now and it is still very comfortable - I remove the mattress cover ( which is essential to keep the mattress fresh) every time I change the bedding and air the cover and leave the mattress uncovered for a while so it can air too. I agree with Sue, it is definitely a bed that needs a ladder to get into and I am 5' 6' but it is very snuggly altho it makes you quite warm, you won't need such a heavy duvet on top of you if you are in one of these beds. Ours is a Slumberland and they are on sale for around what we paid, £550. Most stores do an exchange offer if you don't find it comfy. One point I will make is that normal sheets might not fit as the mattresses are extra deep.

nudging this for anyone thinking of getting a memory foam mattress. Ours is still fine after 16 months use. Liz

ours is still ok. nearly two years old now, and so long as you use a mattress cover to keep it clean, and air the mattress weekly (i.e. leave it uncovered for a few hours when you change the linen and mattress cover) it should last, I have just turned ours top to bottom, do it every six months, but you can't turn them over. It is very warm and definitely high, you almost need one of those plastic steps to get into it, but nice and comfy altho it hasn't helped my fm sleep problems any. Liz Ours was from Bensons beds (I think, or Rosebys, do they do beds?) and in May 2005cost £500 = special offer with a duvet thrown in and interest free credit too. By the way, you will need deeper-sided fitted sheets as the mattress is much deeper than our old one was so the sheets don't fit well.

Repeated message from the Memory Foam thread :):)

Its strange, I was looking at memory foam pillows this morning whilst at the Range store.

The question I asked whilst there was " If you have a bad night on a memory foam, does it remember it and give you a bad night again :):)

Colin, don't have the pillows as I think they would be too warm and cook my brain lol

Kemp. I surprised myself at being able to find it by remembering the title but is was one of my first ever threads - I will see if I can find another one I first ventured here with, lol
