Just realised how long it is since anyone posted on this thread. There is a photo on the craft blog of a lovely painting done by Jane's OH, and some cards from Jean. :-)

Hi Ann
You asked about the paper making.
We make up paper pulp which is made from cotton linters and water.

The linters are cotton which has been partially beaten with water then dried.

We mix it with water and beat it again in a hollander beater.

We then give each child a frame which is a small wooden frame covered in wire mesh.
This is used to make sheets of paper which can be used for making small books.

So we make a few plain sheets then we do a variation on a theme. We are going back to the school tomorrow so I will try and take some photos and you can put them on the blog.
I also show them paper I have made from banana skins, banana leaf, nettles. onions and carrots and denim jeans. :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

We also have some sculptural pieces made from linen paper which is very strong and shrinks by a huge amount making it ideal for small sculptures.

Thanks Von, it sounds really fascinating, I bet the children love it. What capacity are you in when you got to the school? Would love to see photos. :-D

Ann
We are visiting artists invited by the deputy head. She used to work at another school and when she moved asked us to work with the children at the new school.
The children do love it as it's messy.
We had one little boy who was partially sighted and he spent a long time with his hands in the pulp. With help he managed really well and it was a new experience for him.

Some children are reluctant to put their hands in the pulp but soon come round when they see others enjoying themselves.

Sorry Ann
There won't be any photos as the TA's allowed the children to take their papers home.
Sadly we couldn't make our display :-( :-( :-(

Oh that was a shame, I bet you were annoyed. Did they have the authority to do that then? :-(

Talking to myself I think. Where are all the Crafties?

Does anyone have any good ideas about how to store paperstacks. I have loads, some bought, some free with magazines, all used most of the time. All disserent sizes. At the moment they are stored book style on a shelf but are getting a bit out of hand.

When I was in Tenerife I made 7 toppers on an afternoon that was the only cool day we had in 4 weeks. I have just finished making the toppers into 7 cards and then made another one with a different topper so that is 8 made today. :-D
