I have just sent for my dads birth cert namely Henry john Brett, I have discovered there were two births recorded of the same name during 1911, both in London. I know his father had exactly the same name but don't know his mothers name. I did have his marriage date and added that as a ps on the form. Will the PRO be able to find the right Henry J B due to me dating his marriage? Or is there another way to trace which one is the correct Henry?

The marriage info will be of no help in identifying the birth.......but the father's name MIGHT

When did he die?

jax Report 9 Jun 2013 23:39

One was Romford the other Holborn is that right?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 9 Jun 2013 23:40

Are these the births?

Births Mar 1911 (>99%)
Brett Henry J Romford 4a 526

Births Jun 1911 (>99%)

If so........how do you know the second names?

And only one was in London. Romford is Essex.

There is a postem on the Holborn one

Think this is Henry John Brett. 8 June 1911 - 26 July 1997
Father of Frederick W Brett. Spouse of Mary Ada Jane.

When ever looking for a birth it is always advisable to see if they lived to adulthood

Amelia would have been old enough to get pregnant. It's not unknown for grandparents to bring the child up as their own.
Which cert did you order Susan?

jax

jax Report 10 Jun 2013 00:04

On the marriage cert it says father is Henry John Brett retired Checker Timber merchant this was in 1952 when he was 41 no mention of father being dec'd

Susan

Susan Report 10 Jun 2013 00:07

Susan

Susan Report 10 Jun 2013 00:08

So the one born in Holborn looks to be the right one...

jax

jax Report 10 Jun 2013 00:12

As the Romford one died as a baby...yes

There is a tree on ancestry that gives Henry and Elizabeth as his parents??? not impossible but you will find out when you get the cert

Susan

Susan Report 10 Jun 2013 00:13

If you got the info about his father from your parents' marriage cert, bear in mind that it may not be 100% accurate.

Unless, of course, you knew your grandfather..................
