The address was destroyed during a bombing raid in the war. I searched it already... Henry was born in 1920-21.

I have tried searching under different middle names. His marriage certificate lists his middle name as Harry and I thought it was odd too!

I have contacted the Pioneer Corps this morning, so I'm hoping they might be able to help.

Deborah you say you have searched the address already and it was destroyed during the war , but have you searched it on electoral rolls previous to that?

Unless I can't see for looking there is still info from the marriage certificate of Henry H Alexander and Vera Collins 1942 which you have been asked for but haven't given as yet. I know some of it's on the thread but can you give it in one post so it's ALL in one place. Thanks

Please give all details -

Where married and what date
Full names (plus any military details)
Their ages at marriage (not always quite true!)
Their address/es at marriage
Their occupations at marriage
The name of their Fathers and whether deceased or not
Occupations of the Fathers
Names of witnesses

And also the address/es where their children were born

From a linked thread on MC, Henry declared he was 22 when he married in 1942.

Perhaps the 1939 is not the correct Vera- That one born Congleton. Deborah said she was from Lancashire (although not seeing another Vera Collins- to surname Alexander that fits?).

If that IS the right Vera dying 2003 then she would have only been 17/18 when she married which is not what is given on marriage cert...

There is a Vera Collins born right qtr in W Derby, but it's 1924 not 25 possible the year was given wrongly for death cert

But really would help to know all the details from marriage cert and births. otherwise it's just guesswork.

Deborah may I ask what makes you think Henry might be Jewish?

Alexander is more likely to be a Scottish name? ( I have been researching a friend's tree and her Alexanders originated in Scotland, and went to Liverpool).

It's just a thought but mention was made of the chld born to a different couple of the same surnames

that could be this marriage and might be worth looking into to see if they are related?

My head is spinning. The marriage certificate states Henry Collins as Vera's father and that he was a postman. So Nyx has the correct name Vera Collins. She states her age as 18 in 1942. Which works out with a date of birth 14 November 1923. I'm not sure that the Vera Collins in Sefton (death) is the correct on.

Henry Harry Alexander was 22 in 1942 and is listed as. Bombardier in the British Army. His father was Herbert George Alexander and is listed as deceased, he was a glass packer.

They lived in Islington, which was a predominantly Jewish area in WW2 and as Henry has no birth or death certificate, it could be that he was Jewish.

Deborah

Deborah Report 24 Jul 2017 20:45

They were married at the Finsbury registar office and had Charles Alexander and Kathleen A Francis as witnesses. I'd assume Charles is a relative but searches have not shown a lot.

Nyx, I don't know how to search electoral rolls for an address. :-(
