Nyx- this is Nellie in 1946:

43 Berriman Road Islington (note Henry no F initial )

Frederick Alexander
Henry Alexander<<<<<<<<<<<<
Gladys F Rayment
Edward Stockman
Florence A Stockman
Nellie R White
-----------------------------

In 1948
36 Pemberton Gardens
Frederick Alexander
Stanley Alexander
James A White
Nellie R White
----------------------------

Births Mar 1927
Alexander Stanley Walker Holborn 1b 865
-------------------------

Nyx- I think this family is a good possible- especially given the name of the brother. But how does Charles fit- we know her was living with Nellie in 1939- but he can't be a full brother (unless he was born to the same parents out of wedlock?)

I can't see Vera on the electoral register in 1946- I'm wondering if the couple had already split by this time (I know Sandra was born in 1947)?

Back in a bit- think it's time to open the wine

I think it's a possibility, having looked at practically everything else lol.

I wonder if Mary Walker who married Herbert in 1913 is the mother here? might be worth looking at

Looks good Nyx. OK- so when did Herbert and Mary die?

EDIT: A tree on Ancestry has Herbert's and Mary (Polly) death in 1936

Herbert and Mary 1935 electoral register:

Charles Albert seems to confirm the 1911 birth posted by Nyx

Ooh- you beat me to it- was just about to post that!

If this were my family I'd be ordering the certificate for Vera's second marriage.

I'm still having no luck with Whitecoat Street in Islington- can't see any reference to it in the papers either.

Rambling

Rambling Report 29 Jul 2017 16:49

Whadcoat street? it's on the 1939 but no Alexanders at 27

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 29 Jul 2017 16:50

Could be- I'll check the electoral register for 1947- 1948

1947 & 1948- 27 Whadcoat Street:

Charles Heller
Alice Jellis
Ernest Jellis
Elizabeth A Pitcher

So- not much use!

From a pdf on Islington "By 1946, Campbell Road (or Whadcoat Street as it was
now called) had declined......"

CAMPBELL ROAD (1864-5) Since 1938 WHADCOAT STREET.
Because of its poor housing and notoriety known colloquially as the 'Campbell Bunk'.

Deborah

Deborah Report 29 Jul 2017 17:06

Is it wrong that I'm getting to the point where I think these Alexanders need to sort out their name choices and damn well stick to them. I'm now making sure that my names are clear - just in case my ancestors need to research me! Lol

Deborah

Deborah Report 29 Jul 2017 17:09

Austin.... the family tree was written by Emily King!!! This could be it!

Deborah

Deborah Report 29 Jul 2017 17:19

Austin, what would the second marriage certificate give me? They were married in 1962.

I know that Vera and Herbert Sendall carried on living at Sutherland Rd.

My newly discovered relatives have said there were rumours of a wife swap. The above Henry F Alexander looks interesting.

From what you've all found I'm not sure if he remarried? I'm going to have to write it down to work it out. The Islington connection makes sense.

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 29 Jul 2017 17:25

Deborah- nothing is certain yet.

However, the Henry F Alexander born 1920 Holborn looks likely and the family were living in the area at that time. His father was Herbert and he had an older brother Charles.

The second marriage for Vera would confirm her status- whether widowed, divorced.

Rambling Report 29 Jul 2017 17:31

I would also buy the marriage cert for Herbert to Mary if you can, for his age, and father's name?

Marriages Sep 1913 (>99%)
Alexander Herbert Walker Holborn 1b 1548
Walker Mary Alexander Holborn 1b 1548

IF it is the same Henry sadly it is possibe he died in 1994
but this is only guess work until some certs are bought

I had the same thoughts re that death Nyx.

I'm not up on the obtaining of WWII records- if Deborah has his service number and birth or death certificate could she then order his military record?

Rambling

Rambling Report 29 Jul 2017 17:44

from https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records/apply-for-someone-elses-records

"3. Apply for the records of someone who's deceased

You can apply for a copy of someone else’s service records if any of the following apply:

you’re their immediate next of kin, for example their spouse or parent
you’ve got consent from their immediate next of kin
you have a general research interest - you’ll only have access to limited information, unless they died more than 25 years ago
You need to know the person’s full name, date of birth and service number."

Rambling Report 29 Jul 2017 17:49

There is a marriage ( on freebmd) of a Henry F in 1949 Woolwich , can't say whether it is the right man though, but it does look possibly as if the spouse was living in roughly the same area on erolls to 2014 as the death in 1998?

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 29 Jul 2017 17:50

OK- so if that death is correct it might be better to wait until 2019 to order the record- 25 years after the death you get the full shbang.

Think there's a lot of research to be done on the family first!
