Hi Deborah

Yes it was the birth reg for Priscilla that I'd found, but you already know about her so not a shock :-)

Hi Deborah

Glad the probate I posted for Sylvia has been discounted, so she could be still be alive.

You have mentioned that "for some reason" you were not registered as Hipkiss - despite him being your father. No child was given a surname, but the father (if not married to the mother) can only be on the birth certificate with his consent - usually involving him attending the registrar office. He obviously did this for Priscilla registration, as her birth is recorded under both Hipkiss and Niblett, but has not done the same on your registration. Not unusual.

It seems the original message poster is no longer contactable. I have further information if interested.

Welcome to genes, Philip.

Possibly someone on here contacted the original poster and ended up with a private email address, or more information about her so that they could act as an intermediary.

Otherwise it is rather frustrating, indeed.

How very bizarre that Annabelle or her mother has deleted her account ... how unnecessary and foolish.

She now cannot add to or edit this thread ... and in my opinion it needs some heavy editing because of the unnecessary personal commentary about her grandmother who may still be living and various personal details about other people who are living.

But aha, Annabelle has her own tree with herself in it. Try contacting her through this system, and you should be able to reach her.

https://www.genesreunited.co.uk/messages/12704143/discover?rk=563908513

Also you might suggest that she add a post of her own to this thread, and tick 'Watch This' at the top of it, so that in future she will get notices if people add messages to it. How I wish that everyone would do that with their threads ... how I wish that this site's management had ever made it clear to people that they need to do that if they want emails about replies to their questions ...

Now we wait to see whether Philip realizes that he has replies here ........... :-S

Philip realises. Have tried your suggestion, many thanks. I now await a reply.

I have a tenuous link with a Crump family in Brum but few years since did any fam Hist work. Think I have a pic of man and wife as well. Will try to find all bits I have. Crumps I knew lived about mid way twixt city centre and Kings Heath. When visiting my aunt in Kings Heath from a mining village in Staffs we all sometimes visited the Crumps (1940s/50s) who lived in a very dark terraced house. But my aunts daughter doesnt know why we knew the Crumps I also have Hipkiss family in my Tree. One of my maternal cousins married a Hipkiss - they're in their 60s now and live in the mining village I came from. Is this info of any interest?

Hello. It’s Annabelle, Deborahs Daughter. We’re back. After finding a few members which was very traumatic in the end as they were rude. We still haven’t found Priscilla and if anyone has any information please message me.

If she was also adopted then to try and find her we would need her new name

Have your mum added her self to the national adoption register

If Priscilla also goes looking then the contact details would be passed on to her

It’s Becoming very Apparent that Priscilla, has likely changed her diets name!. I have searched the Marriage and Divorce Records and Nothing. My Only option now I guess is to contact a Morning tv show that may track her down. It’s all so complex.

Annabelle, Info re adoption contact register

https://www.gov.uk/adoption-records/the-adoption-contact-register

I know it must be difficult but it's really not a great idea to put that some of the relatives are not so nice, it might put someone off providing info that you really need if they see that. Adoption situations are never easy, for some finding birth relatives or being found, just causes too many problems to be able to cope with it.

I understand that but one was very nasty and hurtful toward My Mum and could of dealt with the matter in a polite way. Hearing My Mum cry and call herself a Dirty little secret really hurt me. I know that some people find it hard to be contacted and don’t always want to know but there is a level of politeness and just blatantly being rude. I’m hoping we will find her Sister Priscilla somehow be it through TV or help from the lovely members on here.

Thank you for the link, I’m an awaiting some more information and if that doesn’t help I think TV will be the next and only option.

Annabelle, so sorry I realised just now that I had not put the right link ( I hadn't cleared a previous copy and paste!)

https://www.gov.uk/adoption-records/the-adoption-contact-register

You do need to do this, as it looks very likely Priscilla has a different name, and hasn't as yet looked for family. So no one here can really help.

This is the direct link to the page regarding intermediary agencies.

https://www.gov.uk/adoption-records/intermediary-agencies

I strongly recommend you use one in this case if you can, it will be a professional third party who is not emotionally involved, and won't get upset by any comments.

Edit to add. If you do let your subscription lapse, do remember to keep your email address updated to GR, then Priscilla can still contact you if she does ever look here.

Hi Annabelle, has your mum thought about maybe writing letters? I know you mentioned addresses and knocking on every door for digging lol! But maybe rather than phone calls because from experience, that can be very stressful and you forget things you want to say, a letter could be better? Or if you know where Priscilla lives locally, maybe there is a local community page on FB or other sites and you could ask around to see if anyone knows her?

Just a thought, as when i was in the same boat, i was getting desperate! It paid off in the end!

ErikaH Report 9 Apr 2019 15:55

Reading through the the thread, the OP does not know Priscilla's name, so she can't know - or find out - where she lives.

Annabelle Charlotte

Annabelle Charlotte Report 9 Apr 2019 20:46

We only know of her birth name. There are no records of marriage or divorce. We’re coming to the conclusion she changed her name and if that is the case we wouldn’t know where to begin and the family we have spoken to only saw her when she was 18. One of my mums bio half brothers said she was in Weston super mare but we can’t chase her down there either.

Rambling

Rambling Report 9 Apr 2019 21:15

If her name was changed it's most likely to be by adoption given the circumstances, so the only place to start is the adoption contact register and paying for a professional who is able to access adoption records. As per the site info given.

Even if her first name was kept, there's no Priscilla A In Weston under 65 on erolls.
