For any degree of certainty, you need the marriage cert

Alternative...........

A tree on Ancestry suggests that this is Alfred
.BUT, it is WRONG, as this man was a Solicitor in 1881

Thsnk you ErikaH, how strange. Maybe if i got Charles Robert Ogburns birth certificate it may shed some light.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 16 Jan 2021 10:35

Sorry to put a damper on your suggestion, but I would doubt very much that it will help. Sarah will probably have named Thomas - who died in 1877 - as the father, if she named anyone
Sometimes, one has to accept that answers cannot be found

Here is his baptism

Name: Charles Robert Ogburn
Baptism Date: 25 Jul 1879
Baptism Place: Purton with Braydon, Wiltshire, England
Parish as it Appears: Purton
Mother: Sarah Ogburn......WIDOW

NO father's name
Abode Union Workhouse

As she was in the Workhouse on 1881 census, and her subsequent children were also born there, one can safely assume that the father - or fathers - also resided in the Workhouse

Tina

Tina Report 17 Jan 2021 17:38

Ok, thank you. It does look like the rest of Sarah's children were illegitimate and possibly fathers from the workhouse.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 18 Jan 2021 09:13

They were 100% illegitimate- Sarah wasn’t married when she had them
