Susan10146857 Report 16 Jun 2011 00:55

I agree that everyone has a right to post......as long as they watch what and how they write.

It seems that some offend others easily without much thought as to the content or manner of their post.

it is difficult sometimes to let the other person know that they have caused offence if they cannot see that they have.

Not everyone who tries to put another point of view across is drunk or bored and the assumption that they are, is in itself offensive.

Susan10146857 Report 16 Jun 2011 02:51

Weird that my post should have been RRd

Isn't this what the thread is about.

I was answering a post on the thread.

I had a pm too.

There isn't anything on that post that should have been RRd but not to worry

it seems I have annoyed someone with my opinion.....I wonder who? :-)

Now you are being silly :-)

Gee Report 16 Jun 2011 07:42

Hi Susan

What on earth has happened to your posts?

The Phantom Post Reprter of Old London Town....?

I didnt see them so dont know what the content was but I would guess it was not offensive

Phil

Help..................please :-D

Gee

Gee Report 16 Jun 2011 07:52

Just a thought....they were reported in the middle of the night (UK) so it someone who either stays up very very late or is in another time zone

Phil

I didnt say thank you for communicating with us on here, sorry...
Thank You :-D

If the reporter of posts had their name added to the report then I guess that would stop this

If I reported a post, it would be because the content was abusive ie; strong language (very strong language for me to report!) or it was breaching equality or privacy in some way. I wouldnt mind you adding my name because it would be a 'just' reason for reporting

Now, if I was being a petulant child and reporting posts for the wrong reason, I would think twice :-D

Persephone Report 16 Jun 2011 08:04

It looks like someone posted inbetween Susan with numbers posts. I remember reading one of them and Susan was being her usual self... nothing offensive. I am in the other time zone but have been out and of course you don't know till later all you know is who the last person was... not that someone has been delving.

Does Susan know?

I have been meaning to thank Phil for listening to us and being prepared to look into it all.

I took the liberty Phil of copying part of one of your items re the troubles with the site, error messages etc on to a thread complaining about it. Just to tell that person you were onto it.

Well I don't know what ol' Enid Blyton would have made of all things GR, wev'e had, Disappearing Threads, Vanishing Posts, Spiteful Messages, Phantom Nudgers, and to date the Mysterious Reporter, oh whatever next eh?...Lol.

(But, on a serious note, I am very sorry to read Sylvia has received such messages, to say not nice is an understatement)

Chris :)

Persephone Report 16 Jun 2011 08:18

Chris

I did not realise that anyone had treated Sylvia like that until I read it on here. I am on several threads with her and am appalled at her being treated like that.

I don't know if any of us New Zealanders have had that sort of treatment. I haven't, but then I can enlist a very good bunch of front row forwards to deal with the likes of that.

Some people seem to think discrimination is just about the colour of your skin or your sex.....ignorant and uneduated poor souls

Sylv, I never saw those posts but if I did I would have stuck my beak sraight in there :-(

AmazingGrace08 Report 16 Jun 2011 13:59

Persie, like Sylvia (I think) I have had someone telling me off because I was Australian and how you can always tell when a dumb Colonial ahs been on the board because they post at times when people in the UK don't.

How childish is that. firstly it shouldn't matter where you come from, the site is open to everyone around the world I would have assumed and secondly, how many years has it been since the UK stopped sending convicts to Australia..some people must just never get over things!

Susan I was on this morning (your night) and the posts were under review then, now they have reappeared. unless GR were testing something perhaps. :-) there wasn't anything offensive about their content that I could see.

This RR just goes from bad to worse, I hope Phil can make some of his changes very very soon

Gee

Gee Report 16 Jun 2011 20:47

I see there are lots of RRs on the boards today.....very silly

Phil where have you gone!

Cherilyn

Cherilyn Report 17 Jun 2011 03:38

I'm glad you guys have been talking about this, it is really ridiculous!

I hadn't really noticed it before but now every day there seem to be more and more threads reported, when as far as I can tell there was absolutely nothing at all wrong with them! What is going on??! Is it someone's idea of a stupid game?

I hope GR are looking into it and boot off whoever is doing it. They must be able to tell. Even if they are being sneaky with multiple names/emails, there will still be a pattern.

Sic 'em, GR.

As for the malicious stuff, I haven't noticed it...but it is a shame, and very childish as AmazingGrace says. This has always been such a great community, we don't need or want this @rap (I suppose that will be reported now)

Gai

Gai Report 17 Jun 2011 04:47

Cherilyn,

In one of Phil's post he states that GR can't track who is doing the Reporting which I think is absurd. Shame they can't as these members will go unpunished.

Also another matter has been raised is the fact that Free members can Report posts on the boards. I still can't get my head around that one. Why on earth would you allow a free member to Report threads when they can't post on the boards.

It seems this was a problem a few years back before I joined but up until recently I hadn't noticed threads that had been Reported.

Is it just me or has this Reporting of threads only became a real problem since the introduction of the Living Relatives Board?

Gai

jax

jax Report 17 Jun 2011 05:00

If they cant track them down how can they send emails to the people who have reported them ?

In the past when a post was reported you did'nt know until it was removed the next day or whenever

But now it is removed straight away perhaps it is more obvious?

jax

Gee

Gee Report 17 Jun 2011 07:03

In the past when a post was reported the whole thread was removed!

Phil

Maybe if the reporting of a post had to go via an email to GR there would be less RRs

I cant imagine what it must be like for new members to post and have it RRd....they would never dare post again and some are very elderly members who may worry themselves sick about it

Now that's nasty

InspectorGreenPen

InspectorGreenPen Report 17 Jun 2011 07:21

No, the whole thread was not always removed, only the offending post.

I can't see what the fuss is about. Members asked for the change, which is why it has been made. As Jax has said, the result is that it is now a bit more obvious.
