Sylvia, in case your still reading this thread, my sincerest apologies if you're still having any trouble. I unfortunately cannot keep up with activity on this board alone and do my regular workload - so have only just caught up with the happenings here. If the situation is not resolved as expected, then post back here, and I will discuss with Estelle and the Support Team. It should not be a burden to give us money! We are trying to improve the whole subscription/payment system, so need to keep tracks of matters like this - i.e. choice of currency. I'll also take a quick peek at your email to see what's going on there. - regards Phil

HI

I am back!

I have had to pay £19.95 for 12 months as they now consider that I am upgrading from Free to Standard ......... I guess they think that I didn't pay my sub in time!

That's even though the offer I received on May 22nd said that I had 4 weeks in which to renew and still receive the offer!

BUT Laura says that they will now refund any overpayment so that I pay only what I was offered on May 22nd.

I wait to see what will be next.

I have incidentally had to get up at 6:30am in order to be bale to get some sort of immediate connectrion with GR

Thank you everyone ............ I hope that what I have gone throuhg will result in some changes to the way in which we can pay!

I check My Threads and I see -- last post by SylviaInCanada! Yay.

I think I will communicate with GR in *advance* of my sub renewing at the end of July.

I think I'll change my country of residence in my account details first, actually. I'm entitled to an extended stay in the UK on account of my grandparents' births there, doncha know. :-D

Phil

Thank you very much!

It is good to know that you are keeping an eye on this board and happenings.

The last few days have been pretty stressful!

I really would like GR to return to the option of paying in £ sterling. Thta is how I have paid since 2004.

.......... you are the only organization in the UK of which I am a member who has ever automatically charged me in USD.

You may not have realized how much that upsets Canadians!

If I can turn it around ................. how would you respond if an American organization automatically charged you in Euros? :-D

But you may also not realize how much money it actually costs ME when you do that.

Your exchange rate is probably set monthly, and possibly higher than the bank rate (not unusual). My credit card company uses the daily rate. So the exchange from £ to USD has cost me. Then I have to pay the exchange rate from USD to Can$

Do hope you can help!

Thanks guys!

Janey ......... thanks for the welcome!

Good idea to change your residency.

I guess I am legal in claiming UK, I was born there after all.

But having all us foreign members claiming UK residency doesn't do too much for GR's "worldwide" membership does it? :-D

Getting up at 6:30 am has not given me any immediate response back ....... so I will have to wait until tomorrow to see what size of refund I will get back.

I know what I THINK it should be ;-)

Update

All OK ......... my credit card has been refunded the difference between waht I charged yesterday (Thursday) and the rate I was offered on May 22.

it's going to be interesting trying to balance out that statement!!

The advice though was to KEEP MY RESIDENCE AS UK to be sure I get charged in £ sterling next year.

So ...... overseas members, be warned!

On the subject of money and renewals - Ginny is experiencing difficulty in renewal because her cards are not being accepted. :-(

This is getting really stupid now.

Why are we experiencing so many problems surely it shouldn't be this hard.

Why has Ginny's subscription been cancelled whilst it is being sorted out. Surely in the interest of goodwill, especially as she is a longstanding member and the problems being experienced on the site of late, the best option would have been to simply extend the membership for the interim.

Again your customer service department is lacking but more than  likely the problem lies with the management not having clear directives on policy or unable to make decisions on the merit of the individual.

Something to think about, on your FB page Ginny has been asking GR for help to pay her subs which from a marketing viewpoint does not show GR in a good light to potential customers.  They may think, it must be a Mickey mouse company if it is so difficult to pay fees.  However, what if you had simply extended the membership whilst it was being sorted, Ginny may simply have posted a thank you for your assistance and your efforts were greatly appreciated or nothing at all.  Both positives from a marketing point of view.

GR you need to work as a team.   I would have every departmental manager work in every other department for a week and on their own rock face for a month so that a greater understanding of the business and it's running is gained.    Then perhaps each department can begin to give greater support to each other and increase GR's reputation on the world stage in a positive way instead of the negative way it does at present.  I know there are some great people on the GR staff because I have received some fantastic support from them, they just need to be enabled to prevent the situation with subs arising again.
