Please read my post:-

Is it just me or is anyone else NOT having any particular problems with the message centre?

Not IS having problems.....!

IGP

I did read your message, and understand what you were saying ........ I AM very proficient in English!

..... and my response was based on the fact that I have NOT heard of anyone who is NOT having, or who has not had at some point, problems with the Messaging Centre.

Now it may be that you are the only person NOT having problems who is taking the time to read these threads :-)

Sorry to say this Sylvia but I, like IGP have NOT experienced any problems with the new Messagge Centre, other than perhaps the need to occasionally refresh my screen.

Perhaps this is because I have a relatively small mailbox comprising some 5 or 6 hundred Messages. Also, I am using IE 8

It would certainly seem from Phil's responses that where messages have gone missing, many of the problems in some way relate to Mailbox size so perhaps he needs to deal with those reported cases seperately, as he has done for Helena. It can't be an easy job to sift through 87 Million messages to find problems.

Perhaps we should give him some space and take heart that he has the original develper of the Genes software available to help?

Patience is a virtue.

I cannot say that I have not had problems with the new message system. I had none before the new message system.

I can say that I have seen reports of problems with it on this board, other boards here, and on the genes reunited page in facebook.

I have faith in Phil Moir.

Hi Phil

Just to say that some of the changes you made over the weekend have had some differing results for some people regarding the screen

For example ................... my page of posts is now surrounded by a dark green border, which is much deeper at the bottom.

The box for adding a reply is a beigey colour

The emoticons are in a designated box in which the background is the same dark green, the word Emoticons is black ...... which doesn't show too well on dark green :-D

............ and the emoticons themselves are "fuzzy" round the edges.

Other writing on the dark green is still black .......... and difficult to see.

Mind you ........ this is on IE6 ............. so I suppose I am to expect such problems?

Although, I do not believe that all the people who have mentioned this same thing are using IE

However, I just tried to use Mozilla Firefox to access GR, and got ................

Error
Sorry. An error has occurred

and, again ............................

have just had to go over to Firefox to access GR in order to check Messages, and got ...................

I access GR from Favourites on IE6, and have not once had this Error message .... although I know plenty of other people have had it.

I get it every other time that I try to access GR from Bookmarks on Firefox.

getting more and more frustrated.

I either have this palaver with Firefox if I want to access Messages Centre, and so maintain contact with poeple

OR I continue to use my favourite IE6, and am unable to use Message Centre.

Is it any wonder that I am thinking more and more about just giving up on GR ....... only the fact that my sub is paid up until June has me here right now.

More and more people are seriously talking about leaving and/or not renewing.

Phil ......... I really don't see that much change in usability of GR between Friday and this time on Monday morning (approx. 5:00 am UK time)

I too have a small mailbox.
Have just tried to read & reply to a message sent to me on Dec 3rd, without success.

Kense

Kense Report 5 Dec 2011 08:28

Apart from needing to refresh after each move when I sorted my messages into folders (which was no big deal) , I have had no problems with the new message centre. It is a great improvement on the old.

I do not receive and send a lot of messages, but have just checked that I can do both with attachments.

PS Using IE9 and Vista.

I am not on Facebook so was wondering why so many people apparantly were complaining on that site rather than on here.
Could it be that our free members, i.e. those people who contribute nothing to the costs of running Genes have found a voice?
That does not make their critisisms any less valid, but given the changes made by Phil, over the last few days, they may be a little out of date.

It seems to me that we can help Phil by, when reporting a specific problem, we also specify the Browser and Version we were using.
Sylvia has I think shown the way in her post on the other thread

jax Report 5 Dec 2011 14:23

I think you will find the people complaining on FB are paid members of this site Jeremy

Reason being they may get a reply there a lot quicker

InspectorGreenPen Report 5 Dec 2011 14:55

Uhm.

If Firefox is a problem why aren't I seeing problems too.

I have been on the site, mainly doing research and sending and receiving messages since early morning and it hasn't put a foot wrong.

jax

jax Report 5 Dec 2011 15:12

I gave up about 5 am as I was getting error messages plus the message centre was playing up sending me all over the place. I am using IE something? not 9 the one before that, so it must be the site not the search engines we use

Daniele Report 5 Dec 2011 15:44

Hi jax,
there is a problem with the functionalities(delete, move to) with the browser IE6 e IE7.
We will release the fix soon.

For now you could:
upgrade to IE9 (always better to use the latest version of your browser) is free and the link is:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/internet-explorer/products/ie/home

otherwise you can use other free browsers:
Firefox: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

Buon giorno! :)

IE7 is working fine :)

Daniele

Daniele Report 5 Dec 2011 16:12

Ciao Joy,

message centre should be cross browser but, this morning we have found a problem deleting messages on the inbox etc. IE 6/7/8 are very bad ehehe and there are a lot of incompatibilities issues, but we have fixed the little problem with MC. Anyway we will release few improvements in the next few days

For the loading problem we are almost there, so just other few days and we should solve the problem in the message centre.

PS: after 1pm is "buona sera" or "buon pomeriggio" :-D

Joy

Joy Report 5 Dec 2011 16:32

Ciao :)

Chrome: tre minuti d'aprire questo!

Mi dispiace - ho sbagliato, non ho scritto la lingua d'italiano da molto tempo fa :)

Buona sera,

Gioia.

PS note to self: must only type in English, otherwise is against the T & C
;-)

Daniele

Daniele Report 5 Dec 2011 16:43

Hi Joy,

the load doesn't change if you are using IE or FF or Chrome. The difference between them is just the Javascript load and other few things.

About the 3minutes...I am pretty sure that you getting a load pick and maybe after this long time period I am sure you are getting the "error page"

Anyway try always to use the latest version of your browser ;-)

Joy

Joy Report 5 Dec 2011 16:52

No, no error message that time - I just did other things whilst waiting :)

I prefer IE7 to 8 and 9 but usually use the up to date versions of firefox and chrome :)

Buona sera,

Gioia
;-)

Daniele

Daniele Report 5 Dec 2011 16:57

let me insist on IE version with this website
http://www.ie6countdown.com/educate-others.aspx

the version of IE6/7/8 are badly made and microsoft reach a very good level with IE9.

Anyway i am going off topic and i will stop.

Now not everyone is computer literate, I for one am not.

My OH set mine up with tabs for my favourite sites to make it easier for me.

I am told Ihave IE? one before 9 so I assume it is 8 then? He upgraded to 9 and does not like it, but is now stuck as he cannot go back he says?

Anyway it is all gooblygook to me, so well leave well alone for now or until I buy a new laptop
