I am searching for my Great Grandmother's family. She was Mary Elizabeth Jarvis b 1884 Newcastle. Father was a keelman who may have originated in Scotland, maybe called Joseph Francis. They lived in the Quayside area.I think she had 2 sisters, Ellen or Eleanor and Catherine, who when adults may have moved to York. Any info would be appreciated, thanks

Nudging for Margaret as she sent me a PM asking if we could find out more about the Jarvis family.

You say Mary E was born in Newcastle in 1884.
Where does this information come from.?
Can't see a birth entry which fits.

I assume Jarvis was her maiden name ?

Hello Margaret, if she was your great grandmother then one of her children must have been your grandparent. Can you tell us who that was, and when and where they were born. That way, we'll know we're tracking the right family.

These children were baptised to Joseph Jarvis and a mother named Mary (probably Mary Ellen Lister who he married in Easington, Co Durham in 1880)
Joseph is staying with the Lister family in Seaham in 1881
It will cost you about £5 to view the following records but as you can see this Mary Elizabeth Jarvis was born later than the one you mentioned so it may not be the ones that you are looking for ?

I cannot seem to find her birth recordseither.
I talked with Elizabeth, who died in 1969, and her daughter (my Grandmother) so gleaned some info from them. She married at 16 yrs old, and had 6 children.
Her birth was not registered immediately. The date I have from an All Saint's Church document is 1.5.1884. She may have been born on 3.4 1884.

Hi Dee! That baptism is spot on for the info that Margaret gave in her message to Mike. The father's name bears no relation to Joseph Francis!
