HID went into M & S and got my dad a pair of slippers this morning at least he can take them back if they are no good. I would much rather get them something nicer but they dont want anything, complete waste of time this christmas lark

I know what you mean Ja....x

OH and I no longer buy 'real' prezzies for each other - the trouble is that if we want anything, we go and buy it so anything we buy is just a waste of time and money.

We buy for the grand-children and their mum and dad but that's it !

As Fans so aptly said the other day - 'We have each other', so that is all we need.

City Clipper....that rings a bell from my childhood

We now have the FreeBee bus that runs around the city centre which is fab for the older folk who struggle to walk

jax Report 22 Dec 2010 15:34

What about the not so old who struggle to walk?? All well and good these buses but how are you meant to get to the bus stop?

My dad put £200 in my bank account to give to my girls, I told my mum it was too much but I think he done it so I would keep half as I said I did'nt want anything...I dont need money nor do they so why are we just swapping it about? I did think of paying for my dad to do a tour of the Arsenal football stadium with a well known ex player, but he will need to take someone with him as its for two ummm

Yeah of course its for the disabled and the abled people too.

I think the free bus also helps with the cost side of things, people on low incomes can travel free

All buses in Sheffield are 'kneeling' buses and have reserved seats for disabled and the elderly, the trams are the same too

I guess thats the best they can do really

Dea

Dea Report 22 Dec 2010 16:04

What on earth is a 'kneeling' bus ???

Do they have no seats??? (except for the disabled and elderly, of course).

We have kneeling buses here! The front of the bus drops down so the first step up is at curb level. Otherwise, there can be a big gap between the surface the person is standing on and that first step, depending on the height of the curb, whether the driver was able to get right up tight against it, and so on.

We also have articulated buses. I'll bet you're jealous. ;)

I hadn't taken buses for years. I'd finally had to get a car for business when I was in practice, and then after I shut up shop and started working only from home, we just used the car for shopping and the occasional out of town family visit. Now that I'm not driving (the eye plus the unnecessary expense) I take the occasional bus. I don't much like the newfangled ones. They seem to have half the seating, and the ride just seems to be much rougher.

But instead of the walkman cretins -- another reason I got a car was I was afraid I was going to throttle the next person who sat down beside me or behind me or in front of me with earphones going Tsh Tsh Bang at me -- we have the cellphone cretins now.

They're worse on inter-city buses of course. They seem to have to conduct running conversations with the person they will be meeting in two hours, about nothing. No.1 and I get on the bus for the five-hour trip at 7 a.m. on Friday ...

Glad to hear everyone's Christmas plans are proceeding apace, despite your horrible Canadian weather. ;)

Toots, if you hear anything about when Man U might get back on the field, No.1 here is in need of his fix and anxious to hear!

Oh - 'articulated buses' Janey - They have them in Spain - we call them 'bendy buses' !

I understand about the 'kneely' ones now - Thanks

I last got on a bus two years ago, full of school kids pushing and shoving and it cost a £1 just to go about a mile

I don't 'do buses' either, although my husband has recently received his 'bus pass' and takes great delight in going into Town for free and not having to find a parking space !!

Perhaps I will change my opinion when I get one ??

The trouble is, I can't do carrying shopping nowadays and need my car to be parked there so I can drop heavy things of and sit down for a bit to get my breath back.

If only they would do a 'free bus' to the local golf club, we could get rid of his car (tee hee!!)

The buses are superb here - have two a day in village to coast - cost almost nothing and every one over 65 gets a discount card for travel and lots of over things - excellent

They buses are well used and come on time -

In my region we don't have articulate buses - but do have some
double deckers - but they normally are coaches -
