Sean Report 7 Feb 2011 12:24

I have been doing my family tree since 2004 and have only had a problem with my Great Grandad William Smith. If anyone can help me with this I will be very grateful, below is as much info about him that I have.

William Smith c1884 (married) Mary Jane Clough 1893
William & Mary were married at St Michaels Vicerage, Westoe Road, South Shields on 27/01/1912.

Together they had 10 children,

Gladysolgo Smith 1912
William Smith 1914
Mathew Smith 1916
Elizabeth Smith 1919
Thomas Smith 1920
Mary Smith 1924
Nancy Smith 1926 - c1952
Ronald Smith 1927
Albert Smith 1929 - 1988
Brian Smith 1932 - 2001 (My Grandad)

I have been told by family members that William was disowned by his family because he married Mary Jane Clough (as she was poor). I have also been told by my Mam that William died of pneumonia shovelling snow in South Shields, not sure when though, also not long after William died, Mary Jane Clough died in a fire at her home.

I have loads of info on Mary but next to nothing on William, none of my living relatives know anything about him, except that I think Williams father is James Henry Smith, but I have no other info on him, just the name.

I will be extremely grateful to anyone who can find anything on William, I have his marraige certificate but nothing else.

If anyone needs any more info just message me and I will try my best to see what else I might have.

Hello

Thanks for getting back to me, on the marraige certificate Williams occupation is a Plate Layer, but I can not read his address, his wife Mary lived at 197 John Clay Street when they were married, but Williams address is different. I can make out an 8 ----- Street, might be 8 Elizabeth Street

Wittnesses were, M Clough, P Smith and Elizabeth Ann Clough

Is it because it's a Monday???

Ann gave the 1911 census for the families.
Dee did the 1881.

I do like(?) the death that Christine2 put up.
