This marriage, birth etc might be worth saving as a possible Sean until you have sent for a birth cert to find out the parents names.

Possible marriage -

ARMSTRONG William Durham 10a 506
*******GODWIN Sarah Durham 10a 506
SMITH Elizabeth Durham 10a 506
********SMITH James Durham 10a 506

Which would make a possible birth for Sarah (West Bromwich covers Wednesbury) -

Marriages Sep 1859
Godwin Sarah West Bromwich 6b 776

and possible Sarah in 1871 -

Sarah Godwin
Age: 13

I will happily accept anything that you find, but Elizabeth Sarah Smith, was Smith just her married name or was that her original surname too?

**Ann**

**Ann** Report 7 Feb 2011 17:40

Elizabeth Sarah Smith, is married to James Smith, William Smiths mother.

Sean

Sean Report 7 Feb 2011 18:54

Yeah I wrote all of that down, plus some one has sent me a pic of the census, I just wanna know what Elizabeth Sarah's maiden name was, unless they were both Smith before they married, if that makes sense.

Sean

The above is what Christine had already put on your thread, (Goodwin). However this is just a possible.
What you need to do is firstly send for the birth of William which will give both parents full names.......meaning the mothers maiden name.

I know why Sean is calling her Elizabeth Sarah Smith, it's because that's what she has given on the 1901 census. She is Sarah on all the others though and I couldn't find a marriage to an Elizabeth Sarah. The trouble is that Smith is such a common name and I suppose they could have married anywhere.

As Ann says, I only posted the POSSIBLE marriage etc details for you to hold on to in case that was them.

Ann is right Sean, you need the birth certificate to find out exactly what the parents names are.

Sean

Sean Report 7 Feb 2011 20:29

Yeah I know, I have wrote everything down and will keep hold of it all, and hopefully i can get my hands on the certificates I need to clarify everything, everything's been going so fast today, a lot going on lol

I don't want to fill your head with too much information Robert, but I was looking to see if I could fathom out whether she was called Elizabeth Sarah or just Sarah on her death reference. Whilst trying to pin down a death year I was trying to find her in 1911 and I 'accidentally' found something else that you might want to keep for the future, as part of it has been mistranscribed. I believe this is a marriage for Williams sister Alice Violet -

Marriages Sep 1908
SMITH Alice Violet Durham 10a 636
To Robert Blakey

In 1911 I wondered if Sarah/Elizabeth Sarah would be with them but doing a free search and Dea's tip of *i* nothing comes up.
Only Alice, Robert and a baby Violet 7 months old.

If someone with a 1911 sub would be kind enough to check please?

**Ann**

**Ann** Report 7 Feb 2011 20:55

Christine its Sean not Robert! lol

I am sure I spotted a likely for the mother 1911, will take a look again.
