I'm getting more confused, Rose, because on Free BMD Job Nightingale Hopkinson married Frances Amelia Eaton.

Just a thought, Rose. On Jessie's birth certificate, is the writing very bad? Could the mother's name possibly be Frances Amelia Eaton instead of Frances Violet Lakins? I'm really clutching at straws here!

Hi Margaret
Just a thought don't no if it will be any help but on Jessie's birth cert the mothers address is given as Plastow Farm Crich, which is in Derbyshire i cannot find any Lakin family there on 1881 census but you may be able to find a Lakin family there on the 1901 census, by the way different spellings of Lakin, Lakins, Laykin.

MargaretM Report 6 Mar 2008 18:27

There's a Lakin family in Crich in 1901. No address given, They're John 44? and wife Mary Ann 42. He was born Shepshed, Leicestershire and she in Crich.

In 1891 they're 64 and 62, gotta go back to 1901. OK, they were 74 and 72 in 1901.

Hi Margaret
The family you have found were living on the common in crich. This man John Lakin is who my uncle thinks is Jessie's dad. Is there anywhere i can look by address to see who was living at the Farm in 1907 please.

I went through 22 pages of Crich on the 1901 census, looking for Plastow Farm. No luck. Not sure what to suggest.

Hi All
Have been to Derbyshire records office today, to see who was at the farm for the years 1905-1907, the records are very vague but there was no one called John Lakin in the village for these years. All the farms were just listed as Plaistow, no listings for a Plaistow Green farm. I know John Lakin died in 1910 ref 7b 392 Reg Belper, if i got his death cert that, would give me his address at death ?

Regards Rose

Hi Rose,

Was Fanny Violet Lakin in the village in 1907?

MargaretM Report 7 Mar 2008 23:01

Hi again, Rose.
I believe that the death certificate would give you the address of where the death occurred but I stand to be corrected.
I think that the Violetta Lakin that Christine found could very well be the mother of your Jessie but how on earth did Jessie become the daughter of Job Nightingale Hopkinson and Frances Eaton? And why did the grandchildren call Frances "grandma" and Job "uncle"?

sprucespringclean Report 7 Mar 2008 23:27

Hi Christine & Margaret

No Fanny in the village at this time it was mainly men that were on elect rolls, as they were the head of household. I do believe from what i could make out the only women listed where property owners. The only Lakin registered was a Thomas Jnr Lakin on the common, no sign of a John Lakin on the common. I will have to get his death cert to find out where he was living, if not in Crich he was still somewhere in the area as Belper covers surrounding areas. I think there are many questions we will never find the answers to. I wonder if she just added the name John on her wedding cert as to say she had a father when she got married. Hopefully i will receive Frances's and Job's marriage cert in the morning, as i ordered from same office their marriage was registered.

Regards Rose x

Thankyou for your time on this .

You may find more when the 1911 census is released but on the other hand possibly not.
