Willing to nudge

VERY old dates on threads.

Hi everyone, i'm just have a general moan, but when you are searching the boards by name, can you please check the date on the thread before you reply!!

Today as with every other day we are having alot of threads being pulled up that are ancient.... some are over 4 years old.....!!!

Genes keeps all threads in it's database so people looking for family members in time to come can find out who else has been looking.....

....but PLEASE, if you are searching check the date on the thread before you reply. If the thread is relatively old, i mean does anyone check a thread they posted in Jan this year let alone 3 years ago??

The best option is to PM the person the thread belongs to (click on their name), make reference to the original thread and sit and wait for a reply. Alot of people may not even be here anymore, and those of us who are still here have to wade through all the old messages trying to get to the new ones!!

Sorry to have a moan on a lovely afternoon...

Tracey

I agree. When I'm having a break from my tree, I glance through the boards to see if I can help in my limited way. Is it me, or do most of these old threads come via the Surname information board? I suppose folk are just excited to see someone looking for 'their' name that they don't think to look at the date on the message. Will willingly nudge this.

middle of the night nudge

Cynthia, I think it is a combination of events.

Yes, people are looking on the Surname Board, and pulling up these old boards. But you can also search by surname on TTF (and the other threads), and this also pulls up very old threads.

Of course, one of the additional problems is that until August last year, answers to queries could not be posted directly on the TTF board, you had to send the person asking the question a personal email with whatever answers you could provide.

This meant that there is NO record on any threads on TTF before that date of answers that could well have been supplied.

So bringing up an old thread, could also mean that the questionner is being provided with answers they have already received!
