Hi Elizabeth
I'm wondering if you can help me please, Miriam can't & suggested you might be able to.

I am trying to track down the parents names of a John Girdler:

Name: John Ball Girdler
Year of Registration: 1884
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: South Stoneham
County: Hampshire
Volume: 2c
Page: 56

Possible parents are:
William Girdler & Elizabeth Ball

Thanks Tracey

Tracy

Sorry but as you see my Indexes only go to 1842 for baptisms (not births)

I rather think you will have to send for the Birth Certificate to get back a generation and then it may be possible to make a connection

There are quite a lot of GIRDLERs in Hampshire earlier.

Elizabeth

I have been checking the thread & I believe it is yourself who has previously responded to queries about PORTSEA ISLAND. If you can spare some time could you check out baptisms on the following:

Albert & Henry SCARLETT born Dec 1890 (twins)
parents Albert Edward Scarlett & Emma Stickland (sometimes represented as Strickland)

Also if possible their siblings -
Edith b1886
Nellie b1889
Dorice b1891
Jack b1896

If it helps Albert & Henry married in a joint ceremony 1915 at the Baptist Chapel London Road Portsmouth, not sure if that was their regular church.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide, here's hoping!

Could you please look up the parents of James Winslade 1798 who was born in Binsted, Nr Alton, Hants. and who also (I think) married there. He had a son William in 1821 and James in 1823 and 5 more in Selborne, Hants, a few miles away. Farringdon is also mentioned in the census of 1841.

Would be so grateful for confirmation of what I've got plus any more you can give me.

Many thanks, Pam.

This thread is over 2 years old !

James WINSLADE was baptised at Aldershot
20 January 1799 s William & Sarah

Their other children-all baptised at Aldershot were:-
Anne also bapt 20 January 1799
Harriet-29 March 1801
Mary-04 Dec 1803
Stephen-05 Dec 1805
Jane-11 Dec 1808
Mary-04 Nov 1810
Elizabeth-04 Nov 1810
William-21 Sept 1812

James does not appear in the Hampshire Marriage Index 1754-1837 and does not appear to have baptised any children there up to 1841

Hi Elizabeth........

Wonder if you have any records for Cheriton Hants please?

I have Argent Keemish born c1727, but have no info on any siblings, parents etc... I have his marriage in Berkshire in 1762 and he finally settled and died in Cambridge

Any information greatly received.......apologies if I`ve asked you for help before, not many people seems to have Hampshire records.

Nicky

The baptism index is 1752-1841 ( I believe taking it back a bit more is a "work in progress" ) ! so cannot help with Argent!

The Marriage Index is from 1660-1837 and there are these KEEMISH marriages in the 1660-1753 section recently released.

St Michaels Winchester
07 June 1739
James KEEMISH
Mary BYE

St Michaels Winchester
11 November 1751
James KEEMISH
Susannah ARNOLD

Morestead
13 April 1746
Charles DANIEL
Mary KEEMISH

Headborne Worthy
28 September 1749
William COLLINS
Sarah KEMISH (sic)

I know at some point im going to have to visit Hants Records office, but in the mean time i will make a note of these marriages ... they may tie in somewhere along the line.....these are th first records i`ve seen for Winchester area.......most of the Keemish ones seem to be for Sherfield English...
