Was she a nurse? There might be records of her training. Was this before she was married? There are records of staff of Springfield Hospital (I assume you mean the one in London)at London Metropolitan Archives. But of course if she was using a different name then she'd be hard to find!

Ann I dont think she was a trained nurse, she sometimes talked of taking Patients out and how embarassing it was sometimes

Those records at LMA might still be worth a look though. You'd have to go there though or get someone to go for you - not online.

That will be very difficult as I am in the Channel Islands

Oh dear - not a possibility then. I think they offer a research service but it's expensive, I believe and with possible doubt on her name, perhaps not feasible.

It would be much easier if I lived on the mainland. At the moment my OH needs me around he has problems with his eyes and I have to take him to the eye clinic every week. I am 77 and dont like travelling alone.
I think Dianes time at Springfield would have been prior to her marriage.
I have never worked out how she arrived in London, maybe she did train as a nurse, I just dont know.Where she was and what she was doing in her teens I have no idea because prior to 1929 i can find no trace of her.
I have heard of brick walls but this is more like an iron curtain.
Thank you for your interest, it is much appreciated

I was named Evelyn Patricia Kathleen,
Evelyn after my godmother who was Evelyn Goddard Fenwick(dont know if spelling is correct} I dont recall ever meeting Evelyn. As I have a godmother I guess I must have been christened though where and when I dont know. We went to live in Weymouth when I was 2 years old so think I must have been christened prior to leaving London, I was born in Balham, Patricia because my mother liked the name and Kathleen I dont know why, maybe Aunt Kate was Kathleen?
Thanks again for your interest

So no baptism cert then Evelyn? Why not email Balham Parish church (St. Mary's and St. John's) and see where their records are kept. You never know, something may show up??????

Oooh. great minds Viv. but how about her address in Jersey? What a coincidence!

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 18 Dec 2009 22:06

What I thought too Cynthia.

But she was living Wandsworth, born Jersey

And Springfield hospital where Diane worked before marriage was/is in Wandsworth?

Evelyn

Evelyn Report 18 Dec 2009 22:15

I cant find an e mail address for church.
Fancy Evelyn being from Jersey and here I am in Guernsey.
Its funny how I remembered her name, I only remember mother mentioning once.
I wonder how Diane and Evelyn knew each other. Diane played the piano very well but could not read music only played by ear.
This is getting spooky, you are such good friends thank you for your interest and help
I flounder as I really dont know what I am doing.
Thank you my friends
