Are the 1891 census records that one Christine posted sequentially not the exact ones I posted at the start?

Yes Janey I think you posted while I was looking. I did not see your post at first. Just confirms if we both found the same thing.

I just noticed Glitter Baby's reference to an earlier thread ... so I suspect I'm wasting time?

Turns out not much came of it -- but it was still unnecessary and against the rules to start a new thread. A new post in that one was all that was required.

I'm afraid I'm getting a bit of eye ache here -- I really hate having to scroll through all the reproduced bumph copied and pasted indiscriminately from other sites ... anyhow, looks like Christine # 2 has the search in hand, so I'll leave you to it too.

Christine

Christine Report 19 Sep 2009 22:32

Hi Janey, Julia E Gouriet is the aunt of my grandfather, his parents as you rightly say are Hamilton Gouriet and Julia Louisa Watts. Julia remarried in 1908 stating that she was a widow but I cant find a death for Hamilton. No I do not have a birth cert as yet, hoping to get a few soon.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 19 Sep 2009 22:33

http://www.calkin.co.uk/calkin068.html

Given the names -- Etienne, Victor, Frederick -- these would seem to be related Gouriets.

In fact, that would seem to be Hamilton's father in the list:

Marriages Mar 1846
Gouriet Dennes Etienne Victor Newington 4 340
Smith Caroline Maria Newington 4 340

(His first marriage was to a Calkin.)

Gouriet, Dennis Etienne Victor
Son of Dennes Francois Victor Gouriet.
Professor of Dancing (1821)
There are a variety of entries in the London Gazette covering Denis filing for bankrupty.
Following the children below are a few of them.
After Juliana's death in 1845, Dennis re-married on 13th February 1846 to Caroline Maria Smith.
Note that on official documents Dennis can be seen spelt as Dennes, Denis and Dennis.

One thread per subject. For future ref.

So we're still looking for -- can you summarize?

I'm wondering about Victor, now that we know he left the building. Have you googled at all?

http://aso.gov.au/people/Victor_Gouriet/

Victor Gouriet
As a cast member:
In the Wake of the Bounty (1933)

Charles and Elsa Chauvel follow the path of the Bounty mutineers from Tahiti to the Pitcairn Islands, using dramatised scenes to re-create the events leading up to the …

This list shows all the titles currently on australianscreen that include Victor Gouriet in a principal role. It is not a comprehensive screenography.

The passenger records show him as an actor.

Andrew Higginson as "The Prince" and Victor Gouriet as "Baron Popoff"

Click on the picture there to enlarge it - and you can order a digital copy.

(Amazing coincidence -- my name-shifting gr-grfather's sister showed up in the 1871 census as an actress, and I found a picture postcard of her on line!)

When I go home, I'll look in my most comprehensive movie book and see whether he's listed. ;)

Janey, so sorry, didnt even know I had actually started a new thread, as I said I'm new to all this, sorry.....

Wow, actors in the family too? will have to look into that, Thanx

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 19 Sep 2009 22:54

Christine, read the passenger list info the other Christine posted. It gives his occupation as actor. So when I googled his name, it connected.

This seems to be his complete filmography:

http://www.starpulse.com/celebrity/Victor_Gouriet/P208707/0/1/

Filmography:
1935 Heritage
1934 Two Minutes' Silence
1933 In the Wake of the Bounty

-- at least movies that are still known today, I imagine. An Australian film expert might know more. I have a well-known film expert in the family, but his specialty is early French and modern Latin American, I'm afraid. ;)

You can click on the movies at that link for more info.
