And very pleased we are to see you. Just been reading precautions you have to take in case of TBO. I had no idea. Seems we are little insular as well. Glad we don't seem to have to worry much about one of those here.

Terminal Body Odour ?

Hi Sylvia,

re this bit:

"............... please remember that GR does not inform you of postings made to your thread. The onus is on YOU to return to your thread to see if there have been any replies. "

Pretty stupid lack of function so I have sent this request to Genes Reunited Support:

"It would be helpful to have an option to supply feedback on the website and the functions available.

An obvious improvement would be an option to be notified by email and/or rss of replies to community forum posts, ie. a "subscription" option.

This would greatly assist members and is a strange omission as it this function is routinely provided on forums of this type."

There are services providing "alerts" for updates to webpages so I am going to try some of them out on threads I am interested in to see if they work on this site:

eg. http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=web+page+update+notifier&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a

Best wishes,

Liz

I'll leave Sylvia to comment on that. Beyond me I'm afraid - but this needs to go to the top of the board.

Elizabeth

Once you know that GR does not send messages re new postings on threads, it is easy enough to look at My Threads

I for one would HATE to get the number of emails from Gr that would be involved for those who help.

I have been known to post on possibly as many as 50 threads in an evening ...................... gawd knows how many other threads that I have posted on previously might receive "new" postings.

I do NOT want 50 or 100 emails in my email box every morning from GR telling me that "new postings have been made on ........"

so, I'm sorry, but I don't think it is a good idea.

As I say, once you have realised that you have to look at My Threads .............. it's easy.

so count me as a NO!

Perhaps a better idea would be notify only the original posters once there is a reply to their thread (only for initial reply, not subsequent ones) informing them how to return to their post.... in fact the sort of PM that Cynthia sends out .

Michael

Thta might be an idea

but every other site that I'm on that has the "notice" function ............ notifies me of new postings on any thread that I have ever posted on!

I have turned OFF the function on those sites because it is so annoying.

Well that debate produced a lot more than my usual quick nudges. It must have been up and down the board like a yoyo:-))

Hey Frank - never thought of that.
Wouldn't want Cynthia getting the unions onto me for making her redundant.

It was just a thought ...
........note to self .............keep your ideas to yourself.

You may be right. I may wish I'd kept my idea to myself. Just posted one on Susan's No. 4. May get some stick for that I suppose. I seem to be quite good at upsetting people:-)))
