Mary, I like your line of thinking there! After all it was not uncommon for illegitimate children to be given the father's surname as a middle name - so why not his surname as a christian name??

Mary

Cheers for that rootgatherer, glad I'm not the only one.

No Mary you're not mad I think you are great!!!
I have been on the search for about 40 years on and off, so any info is a bonus, and any thing is possible. Over the years the family has had connections with Manchester and Liverpool. I will take a look at this family now. Well done

My pleasure Mary - while I always like certificates to back things up, in this case it is not possible but my gut feeling is that you are definately onto something here! Very well done - you're like a dog with a bone on this one! Keep up the good work.

Thanks guys,if you google Jimmy Aubrey and then go to imagess on first page there is a photo of him see if he looks like anybody in your family.
He made over 400 films .

There is someone on here with Robert Aubrey not the same one but the owner of the tree has first name of Aubrey,so it does happen

just been reading he was part of fred Carno's troupe and went to New York 1900 Then he settled there permanantly after leaving London 28.8.1908 so does this mean he is out of the running, unless he came back to visit his mum.

I can't see a marriage between Robert and Sarah nor a death for her - so I wonder if the boys - Charles and James were not registered as Aubrey but using Sarah's maiden surname!

This looks like Robert's later marriage to Ida but she may actually be Ada

Original view of 1911 Ida Aubrey married 28years widow 2 children to marriage and 2 alive still.

So Robert married Ida or Sarah H 1883,but there again it was son Charles Robert Aubrey who signed the census.

You can see James Aubrey's emigration on Ellis Island. He did indeed go in 1908. He went from London and give a friend's name and address as next of kin. More details on the Ship's manifesto.

I still can't see a birth at the correct time and in the correct place for either Charles or James under the surname Aubrey.

Well done everyone, such a lot of info. You really have the "bit between the teeth" I will look at the photo's. I have looked at the info on line about Jimmy Aubrey, and he is described as 5ft 6" and its very funny cos my dad was not very tall infact he was only 5ft 2" !!
Thanks Eileen

Hi all when you have time to spare can you check the 1911 census Charles Aubrey(1883) is on it,but what was his occupation. Should I be looking where he was in 1914.
I have checked out James(Jimmy) what a high flyer he was. When he died he was living in a very expensive area in Hollywood USA, where all the celebs of past and present live. He was a real celeb.

Eileen Report 20 Mar 2010 09:42

Good Morning All
A little poser for you please.
On 1901 census I have John Hewitt age 77 dob 1825 he is a jobbing gardner
His Wife Jane (? maiden name) dob 1829 age 72 they are living at 57 Gwydir Street Toxteth Liverpool. Living with them is thier daughter Ellen Hewitt dob1861 she is 40 years old single and a laundress.
then there is Jessie Hewitt Grandaughter age 19 dob 1882 she is a teacher I presume she is John and Jane's granddaughter. Who's child might she be. Also My "Edith Hewitt" has a birth year around the same time 1882. Could they be twins??? or sisters?
Also John and Jane's background who are their children etc. Off I go again, another branch of the family is emerging. There are so many children on my tree all with the same christian names. No wonder im'e confused. thanks for your help regards Eileen
