Hi Sandra.
You may like to have a look at this one in Bridgenorth. Her name is consistently spelled Lousia (cound be shortened to Lousy & misheard as Lucy) It´s even Lousia on her baptism record on Familysearch.
Born 1868, Tasley, Shropshire. Sister Jane b 1866, Tasley. Father John, mother Mary.
1881 living 33 North Gate, Bridgenorth. John 66, farm labourer,Mary 57,Sarah 23,William 18, John 17,Jane 15, Lousia 13.
1891 3 Cliff Road, Bridgenorth. John only 66 & Mary 61,all the girls at home, plus Thomas Bennett , grandson aged 2. No idea who he belongs to.
Hopefully this could be the one. Good luck. Marion

Hello Marion
I have looked at this family in detail, Louisa got married in 1899 - not to William Shotton. I have put another thread on looking for Fred McGliston who was a witness at Lucy & Williams marriage I cannot find him anywhere, I thought maybe he would be a friend who lived nearby or even a brother in law - but as usual - no luck.

Hi Sandra.
It was worth a try.
have you seen Annie McGliston in 1891 living Belle Vue Rd Bayston Hill with her parents named Habberley. Could she be Frederick´s wife?
Can´t find him, but it´s a wonderful name for mis transcribing.

Sandra Report 6 Apr 2010 16:47

I cannot find her on FMP but I can find Gertrude Shotton age 12 living at 110 Belle Vue Rd.she was the other witness.
FMP will not accept the name McGliston

I´ve tried every combination I can think of & the only one that came up on Ancestry was Annie McGliston aged 33 married, living with her widowed mother Mary Habberley & her siblings in Belle Vue Road 1901. Can´t find a marriage.nothing on Familysearch (it says there are no records for the surname McGliston).
Will have another look tomorrow.
Marion.
Just a thought. As Annie is 33, maybe she had been married before & didn´t get married as Habberley.

Back again. Lots of useful info there - it's almost like lucy is just out of sight!

For what it's worth it really looks to me like the Lucy born Cressage is yours. I am wondering if there is any chance you can search poor law records and the like? As Lucy never seems to be with any family - and her birth was never registered - I can't help feeling she didn't have the easiest start in life.
It might be that the Shropshire FHS can really help you out here.

Have also had a look on Ancestry and Freebmd, and apart from Annie, the McGliston name has drawn a blank. But it does support the Cressage Lucy connection.

But why does she give her fathers name as John Bennett - labourer on her marriage certificate?

I've put a 'Looking for Lucy Bennett' on the SFHS website - no luck

Maybe she made him up? Not unheard of were she illegitimate. Not saying she was obviously, but it's just another theory.
Wish we could find out more about this Fred McGliston.

Just a thought about Annie McGliston. Can´t find a marriage for her under Habberley. Could she have been married previously & widowed & therefore married Mc gliston under another surname.
Still doesn´t explain the elusive Fred, but suspect the name has been mistranscribed mightily.

bit late with this, but still

the name McGliston...I didn't find Fred...but in the area there are a number of Macklestones and Mucklestones...say that quickly and it could be a McGliston?

Well I went to the local Research Office today in fact I spent over 6 1/2 hours there, I was helped by a lady from Shropshire Family History and a gentleman from the research Office who were determined to find Lucy, but sad to say they couldn't, I am no further forward, so reluctantly I have decided to call it a day for now, I have spent so many hours(days) looking for her but to no avail.
I would like to thank you all for your help and encouragement I appreciate it.
By the way witness Fred McGliston is spelt very clearly on the marriage certificate.

Aww Sandra what pity you didnt get anything.
Never mind, work away on something else and when you least expect it...she will turn up.
It's amazing where the time goes when you are searching.
