Latest thing here ...... parents suing their children for support in their old age.

It's a law that was put on the books back in the 1920s ............ the government is promising to withdraw it

so I guess there'll be a few more moms and dads suing in the next few weeks

The one I feel sorry for is the man who was abandoned by his parents when he was 15, the youngest of the family, parents just up and left town, told him he wasn't wanted. He and most of his siblings had no contact with either parent for at least 25 years. Now, 30 years later, Mom is suing him and 4 of his siblings for support. She wants about £150 per month from each of them. Dad is dead.

OMG - that is awful Sylvia. Just cannot understand how she could do that.

Do not think anyone could get a great deal of support from children in the UK. Not on a monthly basis anyway. I would think a lot of them would either be mortgaged up to the hilt or unemployed!

Surely there must instances where you can appeal under the sort of circumstances you describe.
Abandonment to me would mean relinquishing all rights.

One would certainly hope so Michael.

Hi

court case being heard next month ...... all 5 of the siblings are appealing against the support case.

None of them have much money anyway!

It's going to be interesting to see how it goes

........... I know which way I hope!!

Mum has apparently never worked, she's over 70 now.

It might just be a little bit different if you had been an attentive parent, and if the child(ren) had become millionaires!

The law is an ass.

Dozey

Dozey Report 26 Jul 2010 20:13

I hope it's not in that case. Hope justice is done.

I don't know about Canadian justice, but UK justice is woeful... in fact non-existance in some cases.

Think I've got nudger's elbow !

Dozey

Dozey Report 27 Jul 2010 06:04

Sorry about that Michael. So tired last night just couldn't find the energy to boot up and nudge up.

Rotten night's sleep. Atmosphere so close. Had to get up and fling all the bedroom windows open and still kept waking. Long nap this after I think.

Always happy to help a grandfather out. Will look for my nudger's elbow cream.

Keeping up the good work I see Cynthia.

Been to Specsavers. Cataracts slightly worse, getting more short sighted - new specs required - what a bind.

As my contribution to the nudge brigade, apologies for being away since Friday. Back now, but don't k now for how long. Back to the grind of looking for lost rellies.
