Persephone Report 10 Feb 2012 03:49

Nothing under my bed... no mysteries there... could be quite a bit of dust but as it is settled I will leave it be, don't want to disturb it.

In spite of all the advice and follow up PMs to posters, people still seem to think that Genes will notify them when there is a reply to their question.

THEY DON'T !

There are notifications about potential Hot Matches, War Heroes, Victorian Brides and all manner of tentative connections but for some reason the service does not extend to the Community Boards.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 13 Feb 2012 19:38

and the time they did try to set up notification of postings last August with the new Tool, My Watched Threads

it all went spectacularly wrong!

People were getting multiple emails reporting new postings, ranging from 10 emails sent at the same time, to multiple reportings on successive days.

It was sooooooooo bad that they had to disconnect that feature

BUT this is STILL what it says when you open My Watched Threads ..........

"This is where you can keep a copy of your watched threads. At the top of each thread you’ll see the option to watch them. You can watch your own threads or any others that are of interest to you. Tick the 'watch' column to receive an email letting you know that there are replies on your watched threads. If want to watch a thread, but you don't want to know about any new posts on it then just untick the 'watch' box."

I wonder how many people are using this feature ....... and expecting to receive an email re new postings???????????????????

Mmmm.... that could count for a lot.

Thanks for bringing it to attention Sylvia

" a watched pot never boils"

I wish they would take that darn notice off the watch list... I know they have been told.. that ticking items does not work..

You are right about war heroes, Victorian brides etc. Mike. They usually pick some obscure person from my tree who is only there because of the spouse and is of not that much interest to me.

But I do get the monthly newsletter, last one went to spam but that is probably down to my security system. It's a wonder my computer does not have sirens and lights flashing every time I go near it.

............and it obviously worked

so lets see if this can do the same.

The trick is the WARNING sign I think .

(still working on the flashing lights !)
