Hi There I just thought you would like an update. My cousin has found out that my Grandmother Eddith ~Annie ~Hewer had a stepfather called Cox. And there in the Marrage records was an entry in 1915 of her marrying to a man named Edward Buckle who died in 1918. We can still find no record of her marrying Frederick William Edwards. In 1926 after she was apparently "abandoned by her husband" she met Josph Willetts and had two chicldren with him the first in 1930, before marrying him in 1953. Now the first Child a daughter Edith Joyce on her birth certifficate is 'mothers Maiden Name Cox formally Hewer' yet on her son Malcolm who was born in 1933 the name is just Hewer. We have just spent 4 hours trawling the records .

Not to Mr Edwards then..!

I think the safest assumption is that Frederick William Edwards was already married, then.

Edith herself was a widow when she and he partnered, and so she was still a widow when she married Joseph Willets.

And the question still is -- who was Frederick William Edwards -- ??

There isn't a good marriage to match this birth:

Births Dec 1917
Buckle Leslie H Cox Wolverhampton 6b 749

Name: Leslie Howard Buckle
Birth Date: 21 Sep 1917
Death Registration Month/Year: Jun 1984
Age at death (estimated): 66
Registration district: Bristol
Inferred County: Gloucestershire
Volume: 22
Page: 959

Interesting that he died in Gloucestershire?

Could that birth reflect Edith's relocation to Staffordshire? (I'm having a bit of a time keeping the geography straight, but I think I have that bit right.)

"a man named Edward Buckle who died in 1918"

Um, this Edward Buckle? --

Deaths Dec 1918
Buckle Edward 63 Tonbridge 2a 2005

He was 63 years old. Is that likely?

You need the certificate of Edith's marriage to Edward Buckle to get his personal details, especially age.

Louise, are you planning to order some certificates? If so, can you tell us which?

My cousin has sent off for the Edith Annie Hewer-Cox marrage certificate to Edward Buckle in 1915... There is an Edward Buckle registers as passing in the 2nd world war in 1918 in the Millitary deaths WW1.

Also my Step Grandfather Joseph Willets who died in Maidstone had a strong Yorkshire Accent. My Grandmother and him moved to kent from Yorkshire as they were up to their necks in Dept and he was out of work. He had a daughter living in Maidstone . She was Called Carrie...short for Caroline? she had two daughters Margaret and Barbara. She later moved to I think near Birmingham

Fathers Signature Frederick William Edwards
ocupation
Stoker at Waterworks.

So not a coal miner but a "stoker",probably of the furnace at Waterworks.

I did wonder about the coal miner/Hewer bit working for the water board.

Okay! I have daughter Caroline's marriage 1940 Maidstone and Barbara's birth. Nothing for Margaret. I assume you don't know their surname, so will send the info privately. It really would help if you would say whether you know things like that though.

Also sent possible marriage/s and children for Barbara.

"There is an Edward Buckle registers as passing in the 2nd world war in 1918 in the Millitary deaths WW1."

That's 1st World War?

The only one I see at CWGC is an Edward Walter, plus a couple of initial-E-s with no personal info.

Brenda, check your inbox, I sent you the surname of Caroline's husband and daughter.

Don't answer me there, though. I have no inbox, just an error message from this fine website.
