hi Lorraine, on page 11 Steven asked about getting full WWI records from Canada

you're familiar with the CEF webpage where attestation papers may be viewed

http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/cef/001042-100.01-e.php

clicking Search Help on the left of that page goes to

http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/cef/001042-130-e.html?PHPSESSID=shj33glsi84knefm6s85h9nbu0

and there is a link to 'How to order a copy of a complete service file'

since Steven won't likely see this now perhaps you would let him know ?

Thanks a lot, Lorraine.
I have William as a possible brother for Emile, though their parents were born out East, not in England: father Eugene in India and mother Catherine in Burma.
I'm very grateful to you for taking he trouble to look this up for me.

just wondering in case a son might have gone by that surname

I would just say it is no more likely that he would have gone to Canada than to the US, it was very unusual for there to be French immigration to Quebec after the Conquest ( 1769 ), and in any event they seem to have been anglicised

actually there are several children ... from familysearch.org

my point regarding Emile Chinal is that if William in Kansas was a brother then his grandson is listed in the telephone directory and it would be an easy matter to contact him and enquire about the family :-)

edit I have also now given Beverley contact information for the other grandchild and for another descendant of William in a different state

Chrissie-

Thanks for posting that info.

I don't want to hijack Lorraine's thread, so maybe it's better if I PM you.

Thanks again Lorraine for your efforts. If you could find the immigration entry record for William it would be great, but please don't worry if it's too much to ask.

Im not sure if he is the correct james as he is still alive in 1930 is there any possibility he could have died later than 1924, I cannot find a death for him around that year although not all records for USA are complete online.

But he is the only james I can find with the right year of birth in new york area

hi lorraine,
i only have that he took his own life in 1924 ,i have no idea why he did this ,it is this that keep's me looking for answer's,
is there any surname for jennie other than mangan, maybe i could look her up to see if i could out anything.
i know that ellis island, new york was mentioned,so i think that must be were he died, sorry i do not have any more info but the last elderly relative died a while ago,
anything at all you can find will be good as i may be able to find info from ireland.

Lorraine

Lorraine Report 9 Sep 2011 23:38

martyn

I cannot find a marriage for jennie and james nor births of the children New York records are not yet fully transcribed online

familysearch.org have started transcribing new york deaths and marriages but are not complete and cannot find anything for the family.

Do you have anyone in Ireland who could confirm his date and place of death if he definatly died in 1924 then the james on the 1930 census is not right.

hi lorraine,
thank you for all your help, there is no one i can ask ,all i have is what i told you,the only thing that i keep going back to is the illegitamate daughter who came foward,as i know nothing of her this is going to be one of those line's that will very hard to sort.
i think it may be the wrong james,as his wife &children would have claimed his estate,
on his passenger listing he is down as a clerk, but that may not have been the truth,
it is so annoying to keep comming up against a brick wall,he will turn up one day,(i hope),do you know of any other record's i might try to look at,
do they do cemetry record's or anything like that.
