Lady K looking at that 1901 census has Frederick as butchers assistant aged 28, not 'very' likely he would become a lighterman... in as much as it does tend to be witing families and served apprenticeship from young age....

LadyKira Report 20 Oct 2010 18:58

If this is your grandmother she married twice born in march and had 10 children. She died 1989.

Sorry RR but which 1901 census?
I have not posted any about Louisa.

The tree notes were from Thomas Samuel Read.

The tree owner has her mother as Louisa unknown.

There are two census 1901 and 1911 both dock workers RR

It looks like a close family member but I would say Christopher shold contact them.

Ahhh its the one on that tree that says he was a butchers assistant
I see that date of birth ties in with my Louie Smith

No census link there.

I am urging caution as I found an Edward Smith in 1901 that fitted all the info I knew and when 1911 came out found he was the wrong one. Same age area etc

same tree LadyK if you click onto Fredericks name down on the right there is a link to 1901 it says " 2 citations provide evidence for Name, Birth"

jax

jax Report 20 Oct 2010 19:43

Wish they would keep to the same spelling One minute it's Read then the marriage is Reed so is it the same people??
Have you seen that photo it says her name is Louisa Smyth?

I think the immediate tree is a match but they have not necesarily attached the right census records.

Christopher said Thomas Samuel was a soldier at the time of the wedding. I wonder if hat could yield some clues?

I've been trying to find Frederick in 1881 to see if he may have been a lighterman's apprentice but not completed apprenticeship..but not having much luck!

Still think my Louie Smith is a good match as the father did'nt complete the census so the odds are the spelling was correct. If she decided to call herself Louisa that was her choice as I have found with my own familys marriages
