Although there is no relationship given for Arthur, I wonder if he was Margaret's son and his father the Samuel Grassie who was living at the same address on the 1851 census?

This looks like Margaret in 1841 (note there is also a Helen Jack in the household, the niece living with her in 1851?). On this census too, it looks like her daughter Catherine's surname is Addison. Could Janet Duff actually be Jessie Cliff later Garland?

Aileen - if my tree is anything to go by, there could be a few! I have one who had 7 children with 4 different fathers and she never married any of them - although the fathers were all free to marry and so was she.
