I think these 2 marriages are for a yet another different Thomas, the age is wrong as he was 24 according to the 1883 marriage. The one we were trying to eliminate was married to Mary Ann, and found on census with her.

I realise that but I am making sure we can eliminate them. I think you are on the right track too Flip.

Think this iss the Thomas on the 1891 census, with parents Joseph & Elizabeth, but the one Lambert was looking for had mother Jane, and is 10 years older than this one:

Thomas Houghton
Age 21
Estimated Year of Birth 1870
Relationship to Head of Household Son
Occupation Agricultural Labourer
Address Lord Street
District Warrington, Winwick
Parish Croft
Administrative County Lancashire
Birth Place Croft
Birth County Lancashire

on the 1881 that Lambert started with Thomas was a dyer and I think that could be the clue.

Thanks LK but, as Flip says, - those marriages are for yet another Thomas.

We need to hang on untl we hear from Lambert or this will get confused even further - then we need to concentrate first on the 2 Thomas's he already has so that we can find out exactly which one he should be following.

Dea x

P.S. - The occupation of Dyer follows through to the one who went to Halifax, who was with father Joseph on 1881.

The one Lambert is following was an Iron Driller!

You are right, he was a dyer (unemployed) on an earlier census, and the Thomas I tracked to Wakefield 1891, Stockport 1901-1911 was also a dyer.

Lambert, the other Thomas you tracked was an ag. labourer then a driller at iron works. He ended up as a publican at the Old Noggin Inn, Risley on 1911 census, the original makes interesting reading! They even listed their 2 dead children.

Sorry Dea, guess our posts crossed.

Flip, my 'likkle friend',

You keep saying Wakefield, rather than Halifax? - Are they the same place??

Sorry, I meant Halifax - don't know why I keep getting them mixed up - better get me that wet kipper!

It is so easy to follow the wrong one. I did it with one of my many Smiths. It was not till the 1911 came out I could see it.It is also difficult to follow on a thread like this.

Did you notice the Houghtons at 78, Cockhedge Lane, in 1891.

Completely different names.

Dea

Dea Report 29 Jan 2011 14:10

Thanks LK - I have not followed them through yet as we still do not know from Lambert which Thomas he should be following!

If it is the one who married Mary Ann, then Joseph and Cockhedge Lane will not be relevant.

Thanks LK, - Well found !

That unfortunately doesn't help as she is convinced her ancester is Joseph, whereas, if she is related to the Thomas born in Croft, he would be John!

well you would think he would be more familiar with his grandfather than furthur back. his info on grandfather says born in croft and moved to leigh so i have themon 1901 and 1911.

i have also found a tree on ancestry for thomas and mary ann with their children

Dea

Dea Report 29 Jan 2011 15:09

Yes, I have seen that LK - I am leaving this alone 'till Lambert comes back with some info!

The tree has 'gone wrong' somewhere and while I am happy to try to help him sort it - I am totally wasting my time at the moment.
