Gloucester, Somerset and Devon are pretty well near each other but Cambridge is the farthest away. Takes us about an hour just over to get to Bristol from Devon I think. These counties are all in the west and Cambridge is more in the east.

Thanks, Mel. I did wonder if they were attending school/university at Cambridge and that is why they were there?

Great progress made...still hoping to fill the ? on page 4 ;-)

Thanks for that death - would explain why he is so elusive!

I spent an hour on Anc at the library yesterday...wasted a lot of it as usual...but did find a possible for Wm Hy Hanson and wife Hannah.

Likely birth for him in 1814 at St Geo in the East Mdsx to James & Ann. Most notably, Jas is a mariner (Wm's occupation was Master Mariner).

What is odd is there is a Wm Hy Hanson in the 1841 census aged 28, born Mdsx, and it appears he is living with his parents James and Ann (both 68) and possibly a sister Ann (40). Forgot to look to see if it indicated whether he was married :(

There's a Hannah Hanson, b. Bethnal Green, in 1861 as a servant in an insitution of some sort? Didn't get the place but it was in Shoreditch. Maybe not her.

And not til I got home did I think to look for a christening for Hannah Tongue. Found a possible to parents John & Hannah in Mdsx/London but of course without full access could not see the year etc.! Grrr. Hate that! On her marriage to Chas Kelly it shows her as being of St Mary le Bow, London.

I did look at the marriage for Wm Kelly to Elizabeth Hurst - witnesses appear to be W. Hurst and Matilda...looks like Dawson but could be Hanson. Can't be his daughter obviously, but wonder if some connection!

On the marriage of William Kelly and Elizabeth Hurst the witnesses are W. Hurst and H Matilda Hanson!!

Cherilyn

Cherilyn Report 10 Jul 2011 11:24

Yes I thought it was Dawson at first but then suddenly thought it could be Hanson! But who was she??? Not Wm Hy Hansons sister, or mother, and obviously not Wm Kelly's daughter! All too early.

And the Ann Hanson in the 1841 census is 40, so can't be Wm Hy's wife. And yes bootbinder (or bookbinder?) doesn't really fit. I was hoping it said boatbuilder haha!

But all else fits, so maybe the Wm Hy born 1814 is not the right one after all? (I did see his sister Matilda's baptism, but missed Lancelot!)

I found this thread accidentally when trying to further research William Kelly and am hoping someone might contact me. My husband is the descendent of William Kelly through his daughter Matilda who married Martin William Lemon. We have their family bible which was given to them in 1868 by the St Andrews Bible Society Leicester. I am pretty certain of my tree, but it would be great to be able to confirm it and maybe move further back in time to William's father etc. Julie Lemon
