Ok

Say she was born Ellen Smith for example her father went off to war and was killed

Her mother then married or took up with a Mr Sweetman...then there would be nothing stopping her to call herself Sweetman nothing was checked back then

yeah that might have happened.

my mother thinks she married a sweetman.

I dont know if you remember on previous messages, that she used to try to contact somebody with suance.

you only would be interested in connacting your husband or your children, not your parents.

She was a Cathlolic. I dont know if that matters with the search.

Don't agree that she would only be interested in contacting a husband or children. Perhaps her mother died young. Unusual for a practising R.C. to go to a seance - it is against their religion is it not?

With all due respect to your mother, if the details on the death certificate are all wrong why will she not show it to you? One can't help but think that there is a clue in the death certificate and your Mum knows more than she is telling you.

Wouldn't be the first time the living have obstructed the search for the dead. My OH's aunt assured me that her father hadn't been married twice. He had! He divorced his first wife in 1920 (unusual, I know) and immediately married the Aunt's mother who actually brought up some of the 7 children from her husband's first marriage.

Why are you not spending £9.25 to put yourself and everyone else out of their misery? Please get that death certificate North. We have been advising you of that for a month now.

Eeh, rootgatherer, was I breaking my Catholic vows when as a teenager I indulged in a seance? And a fascinating experience it was too. Catholics don't all live by the strict rules of the religion, some use birth control methods, and have affairs. It might be "against their religion" but they still do it.

Please, Catholics, don't think I am having a go at you (cos I am one), just saying that anything is possible.

Anyway, as regards a seance, you can't choose who you call up. You get whoever is around in the atmosphere at the time. It might be a complete stranger. Eeh, I sound like a crank, but I have some weird experience of seances from nearly 50 years ago that left a lasting impression on me.

Nevertheless, North, we need that death cert please. You have no choice now. No seance is likely to help you.
