Erin, the Jonathan that is married to Henrietta (I posted marriage on previous page) is not the John that is married to Rebecca's sister Jane.

John and Jonathan must be closely related as Rebecca is with Jonathan and Henrietta in 1881 and her two brothers are with John and Jane.

Eringobragh1916 Report 20 Apr 2012 19:11

What tangled lives they led..!!!

Have also found that the Blacklocks/Ferrys/Ledgers were also in Nova Scotia Canada mid 1800s...!!(Probably other Branches of the respective families)
Maybe they didnt remember or know where Rebecca was actually born...!!!

Now - one of the census records gave Rebecca's birthplace as Canada ......

Jane

Jane Report 20 Apr 2012 22:47

Hello,
Just been looking through lots of papers after looking at all the information that has come. I dod find Jane Ferry on the 1861 census with the Ferry family it has
what looks like Isabella down as 29 and Jane's age looks like 9 not to clear, and the marriage date I have for Joseph and Isabella is 22nd October 1854 at the
Church of St Mary's and St Cuthbert's in Chester-le-Street, Durham, the researcher I had told me he could not find a birth for a Jane Ferry so he thought
Isabella might have had her before Joseph in that case I would have thought she might have had her mam's maiden name of Ledger first then maybe had it
changed to Ferry when Isabella married Joseph, unless it was to cover that Jane
was born out of wedlock.
I did get some papers from a relative of the Blacklock family and it looks like the
parents of Jonathon Blacklock are Jonathon and Hannah and he was born on the 26thJune 1854, and John Marshall Blacklock's parents are George and Maria and he was born 1st December 1845. The person who gave me these family papers could not verify Jane's maiden name for me, these 2 men are from the same family. The other information underneath is that the name Marshall comes from his grandmother's maiden name. When I saw my g gran
Rebecca living with the Blacklock's and one of the men was married to a Jane I
thought it must be Rebecca's sister. The other thing which made me feel this is my dad's middle name is Marshall it is not a family name but it is in the Blacklock
family so I thought because they had taken Rebecca and her brother's in that is why my dad was given this name, I never new where the name came from till I saw the paper work on the Blacklocks. Also one of the spellings is down as
John Marshall Blaikloch.
Maybe even Jane was born in another Country but not to Joseph, it certainly looks abit weird, maybe I should try and apply for a birth certificate with the info
I have and see what happens I could always ring the record office see what they come up with, but the researcher did go to the records office and could'nt
find anything so that makes me think she was'nt born or registered in County
Durham.
The Isabella that was in the Newspaper Articles I don't think is my gg gran Isabella for Larcency because she died 2 years after that date on the Newspaper and the young Isabella could be my g g granddad Joseph's sister as her dad was Joseph to. I did look on the net for the Robin Hood pub that was
mentioned in the Newspaper to see if there was any old History on it as sometimes publicans names crop up but could'nt get anything for Leamside.
Another researcher on here mentioned about it had America for Rebecca but scribled at the side was Nova Scotia, I wondered if the family had got mixed up or the person doing the census as there is a Nova Scotia in the area where the
Ferry's and Ledger's lived. Anything else I seem to have puts Rebecca down as born in PA.
I just wish there was'nt so many in the family with the same name it is so hard sometimes to work out who is who.
Going to go and now have a ponder on what has come and thanks again, just amazed at the help you have given me.
Cherrio
Jane.

From a new thread:

This is my g uncle Joseph his parents are Joseph Ferry and Isabella Fletcher nee Ledger. I have Joseph as a scholar in 1871 and then a coal miner, in
1881 Joseph lived with John and Jane Blacklock in Tunstall, also Joseph's
brother George born 1860 Fatfield, I have info that George married as I have
a marriage certificate for him but don't know what happened to Joseph, wondered if he maybe married and went to work and live abroad. I must have
living relatives connected to g uncle George and wondered if I have living relatives from g uncle Joseph if he married. Hope someone can help me with Joseph.
Thanks
Jane.

he feels like a missing link at the moment.

Jane - best to keep it all on here.

Hello message for MarieCeleste,
I received a baptism certificate for my g grandmother Rebecca Fletcher nee
Ledger and there was not a place of birth down just date of boirth in June
1866 and baptised in September 1868, a little disapointed but nice to know she had been baptised. Have also found information on some of the Blacklock
they went to Australia.
Kind regards
Jane.

If you need anything looking up on the Blacklocks then just let us know.

Jane Report 27 Apr 2012 08:11

Hi,
All the other information I have puts Rebecca down as a British Subject next to
PA, on most records that I have and on her baptism it states only her birth of
June 1866 but she was not baptised until Sept 1868 which seems quite a while to wait to have it done unless they waited untill they came home. I think I will call the Durham Record Office and just see if they have got anything for her for a birth. Thanks for the offer on the Blacklock family I just saw quite allot of details
on someones tree on Ancestry and I have sent a message off no answer yet, but it was there I saw about Australia and saw a picture of Johnthan and Henrietta Blacklock. There was another tree with John Marshall Blacklock and
family but not to much info about them. Going to apply foe a copy of Jane Blacklock nee Ferry marriage certificate also Durham Records and will ask about a birth for her. I know Jane was born when Isabella was only about 19/20 before her marriage to Joseph but I have looked to see if maybe Jane was registered as a Ledger at first then Isabella just changed her name to Ferry after her marriage but could'nt find anything for that date. I wonder if when Jane
married if she would have had to show documentation of her birth showing her parents names, maybe it was'nt as strict then. Just have to keep digging and if
I get some documents maybe findout more.
Thanks
Kind regards
Jane.

Looks like the Blacklocks arriving in Australia:

New South Wales, Australia, Assisted Immigrant Passenger Lists, 1828-1896
Name: Jonathan Blacklock
Birth Year: abt 1855
Age: 29 < a miner
Arrival Date: 3 Feb 1884
Vessel Name: Abergeldie

He was travelling with Henrietta 24, Elizabeth 6, Hannah 3 and Maria 1. All from Durham.

For some reason they are recorded arriving again:

New South Wales, Australia, Assisted Immigrant Passenger Lists, 1828-1896
Name: Jonathan Blacklock
Birth Year: abt 1855
Age: 29
Gender: Male
Arrival Date: 23 Dec 1884
Vessel Name: Abergeldie

Same details as above, but this time there is "female infant" also recorded.

A possible 1901 census:

1901 New South Wales, Australia Census
Name: Jonathan Blacklock
Locality: Lambton
Sub-District: L2 Lampton
County: Northumberland
District: Newcastle

The census give no detail about age, occupation or birthplace. The record only states there are 4 males and 6 females in the household.

Henrietta in 1936:

Australian Electoral Rolls, 1903-1980 about Henrietta Blacklock
Name: Henrietta Blacklock
Gender: Female
Electoral Year: 1936
State: New South Wales
District: Hunter
Subdistrict: Wallsend

She's living Newcastle Road, Wallsend with Elizabeth, a schoolteacher.

Living in Perk Road are John Marshall Blacklock, a miner, with Mary Jane.

(The scenario was exactly the same in 1930)

Jane Report 28 Apr 2012 13:28

Hi,
Thanks for all the info the Mary Jane is the wife of John Marshall Blacklock Jnr
and she looks as if she was born in Australia. I did send a message on Ancestry to a tree which was placed by a Blacklock but I havn't had any reply as of yet. The one thing it has established is other then Jane Blacklock nee
Ferry none of the other Ferry family went with them. I got mixed up and thought
Joseph Ferry Jane's brother may have went with them but then realised your
information pointed to him going to America. Still unsure about Jane and her birth but hoping to contact Durham Records to see if they can help also about
my G Gran Rebecca and her birth, also marriage lines for Jane and John Blacklock.
I wonder who Elizabeth the teacher is I notice Henrietta's mam is Elizabeth so maybe its another daughter named after the mother.
Thanks again.
Jane.

MarieCeleste Report 28 Apr 2012 14:46

Jane, if you look at the shipping record of them arriving in Oz they had a 6 year old daughter Elizabeth. I think it's quite likely that she is the schoolteacher.
