Do you have anything on them after 1871, as I cannot find a trace. Is there any chance they emigrated??

hello,

Robert is living with his son William at 5 alice street (i think in the 1881 census)...his name is recorded as being Rawlinson. Defo him as his son is listed as being a French polisher and Robert as a warehouse man from leyland.

nothing however after the 1881 census for robert.

Can this one in 1881 be discounted by somebody?? I know it doesnt quite match up, but we have seen all sorts of scenarios!

Well, this looks like the Catherine Jones who Robert married in 1863 - she is marked as married but there is no 'husband' present ??

It is looking more likely that Robert Gornall Rowlandson could be 'your man' ??

HANG ON !!!

I have just seen your post about the '81 at 5 Alice Street.

If this is 'your' Robert, he is NOT the 'Robert Gornall' one !!! - The occupation is all wrong !!

On 1871 when he is with Deborah he is a'Shipping Clerk' and before that a Merchant's Clerk, which seems to fit well with Robert Gornall, However, the one you have on 1881 is a Cotton Warehouseman - a more 'lowly' position ?? AND the names are different ?

I really don't think that it is the same 'Robert' ?

What have you got to prove that the 1881 census is him please?

Suzanne Report 18 Jun 2012 17:08

Hello Dea,

The 1881 census is defo correct as mr GGG grandfather was a French Polisher and on the marriage certificate of William Henry and Annie Bird the occupation of himself and his father are correct and the address is Alice Street, so I know those details are right. On the birth certificate of William his mother is stated as Deborah Peelow and his father as Robert Rowlinson, merchants clerk....as Robert is listed on the 1881 as being born in Leyland the same as the 1871 and 1861 census and the year of birth is the same as Robert Gornall Rowlandson. Seems too much of a coincidence that it isnt the same person.

Hello Dea,

Just another thought. on the wedding banns that were read at St Stephens the names are Robert Rawlandson and Deborah Peelow, again a different spelling than on the birth certificate.

Do you think he could have fallen on hard times and hence the change in occupation?

There is a private tree on there - the owner is JW13055 - this person seems to have all the family members on it who we have been following.

I suggest you contact them and see if they can give you any info on Robert Gornall Rowlandson.

I am also acquainted with someone who doing a one name study on the Gornall family and has information on the Gornall family going back to the 1600's and probably beyond as it is a few years since we were in touch.

She is NOT a 'name collector' who just adds on any name to her tree even though it is not connected. - All her information is thoroughly researched and 'proven' !

I will contact her in the morning and see if she has anything useful.

Speak soon - nite night now,

Hi Suzanne,

I have heard from my 'contact' re the Gornalls and she is looking into it for us.

In the meantime, you have said:

"On the 1861 census Deborah is listed as being single and living with her son"

I can't see them? - Can you give me the census reference please, or post the census, or tell me what names they are using please as I would like to take a look at it?

Thanks,

Dea x
