Emma jane died 23/03/1950 age 83 described on death cert as widow of Robert Rutter Bainbridge so far i have not been able to find death record for Robert
they lived at 2conningsby terrace tarring road worthing for many years maybe someone in the bacon family has info

I know Emma states that she is married on the 1911 census, but as Robert isn't with her, that may not be the case.

so he is calling her Jennie and is quite a bit older than her .

Have you looked for marriages for the children .the certs may say whether he was deceased at the time of the marriage

thanks emma jane was my grandmother she and robert married at broadwater parish church 21/06/1891 . daughter lillian rose birth 27/05/1895 son albert stephen bth17/09/1899 son robert matthew bth 1903 in 1911 census emma is recorded as a laundress and appears to be shareing home with 2 widows and her sons possibly daughter lillian was now working in service
i have looked at and even aquired deah certs suggested for about the most likely candidates for robertbut not even a trace of a match he was registered at birth as robert rutter bainbridge and signed marriage cert as same the" rutter" being a link to his mother jane rutterf

thank you all yes albert stephen was my dad died in sherbourne naval hospita dorset his sister married a charles lodge and they kept the clifton arms tarring road opposite mother at No2 brother robert matthew married 1927 mabel jane paice east preston 2b 894 died 26/03/1929 my parents married oct 1933 i must check their cert for grandfathers condition

to all hanks for your help just noticed that robert was only 6 yrs older than emma in 1891 aged29 but in 1901 census his is clearly entered as 53 yrs emma is still only 33
