This is the baptism you have found?

Name: Frank Stewart Battersby
Record Type: Baptism
Baptism Date: 10 Sep 1899
Father's Name: John Frederick Battersby
Mother's name: Elizabeth Battersby
Parish or Poor Law Union: South Kensington St Jude
Borough: Kensington and Chelsea
Register Type: Parish Registers

Is it the Birth cert you have got the parents names or this Baptism record?

The following Baptism has John Frederick & Susan as the parents, the address of 7 Westerby Mews is the same as is the occupation.... Has John's wife Susan died?

Or are there several members of the same family living in 1 house?

Name: Archibald Howard Battersby
Record Type: Baptism
Baptism Date: 5 Jan 1896
Father's Name: John Frederick Battersby
Mother's name: Susan Kathleen Battersby
Parish or Poor Law Union: South Kensington St Jude
Borough: Kensington and Chelsea
Register Type: Parish Registers

OK, something isn't right here.....

Name: Alexander Henry Battersby
Record Type: Baptism
Baptism Date: 2 Jun 1901
Father's Name: Frederick Battersby
Mother's name: Susan Battersby
Parish or Poor Law Union: South Kensington St Jude
Borough: Kensington and Chelsea
Register Type: Parish Registers

The father's occupation and the address are the same?

I would wager Frank Stewart Battersby was born earlier and Baptised later? Maybe there was an error by the vicar on the Baptism record.?

Do you have the actual Birth certificate?? If you do not, i would suggest actually buying a copy!

OK, so the birth was in 1899..... this would lead me to think you have 2 families living there?? Cousins?

Maybe the Catherine above is Susan Kathleen?
Whatever else I think this is a very complicated bunch of people!
I haven't located a birth rec for John Frederick Battersby, can anyone else see it? Or found them in 1871/81 come to that.

I am chasing my tail, but I wondered if this is the marriage of Charles and Marie from the 1911 census above. This woman has the same name as the one possibly marrying John Frederick in 1880 (yes, I know her name should be Battersby if the same person!). Charles' middle name is def. Alfred (on 1896 Frank's military record).

Marriages Dec 1895 (>99%)
Battersby Charles Alfred St. Geo. H. Sq. 1a 953
Bridgeman Frederick St. Geo. H. Sq. 1a 953
Davis Mary Elizabeth St. Geo. H. Sq. 1a 953

All the baptisms, except Frank and James, are covered on the 1911 that brummiejan has posted above. Living with parents Frederick and Kate.

Archibald Howard
Ida May
Marie Florence Louise
Dorothy Malvina
Alexander Henry

Frederick Battersby married Kate Hake 18 94 Paddington

On the 1871 census, Kate is called Susan.

Frederick and Kate claim (on the 1911 census) to have been married and having had 7 children, all of whom are strill alive.

Looks like Frederick Battersby was married to a Mary Davies before he married Kate.

1891 census

Another query! Can anybody see a birth record for any other Frank Stewart Battersby because I can't. So where is the 1896 registration?
I am starting to cook up a story of wife-swapping and/or bigamy in my head, somebody stop me!!

ADDED Actually, I suspect Frank was born 1900 and fabricated his birth year to join up!

Following Jan's comment above, Frank Stewart Battersby's service records state he was discharged 1915 for having made a mis-statement about his age.

Address was 81 Flood Street, Chelsea.

What about Frederick and John Frederick?

Well spotted MarieCeleste!
So - do we think there are 2 Frank Stewart Battersby's or just one? I am starting to wonder if Frank was child to John but given to Charles and Marie as they had lost so many children?
Probably fantasising but it wouldn't be the first time this has happened.
