There's a saying I grew up with................

What can't speak, can't lie

So why would you put Ernest Douglas on his gravestone, but only register his death as Ernest?

Surely if you knew for a "fact" his middle name was Douglas, it would have been mentioned

The 1911 has the ages the wrong way round.

btw it was always an in family joke that Grandad was vain enough to name his son the opposite way round to his own hence Ernest Douglas and Douglas Ernest. Brenda (sister of Douglas Ernest) was always relieved that she was not named Maud Ivy. ha ha

Reggie - Ernest Douglas was grandfather and Douglas Ernest was son but always known as Ernie. I am trying to get my little brother to go through boxes of documents and paperwork that he has to see if ha can find any certificates and such like.

Brummiejan - Ernest Douglas and Ivy Maud are definite names as we had them put on gravestones.

Chris Ho - thanks for info and probably buried in same cemetery as nana and grandad and only managed to get half done when last 'graveyard hopping'.
