Wow Vanessa, and thank you for your research, I have the marriage certificate now of Thomas Henery White and Martha, it gives his mother as Mary White and his father Alexanders occupation as cooper, his own ocupation is miner, I hope that I am tracking the correct person.

Thank you everyone for your help, I think the Thomas Henery White married to Martha is probably correct, I have only just found out that there was a second marriage, I was put off by the spelling of his christian name, If this is the correct Thomas he was born to Alexander White in Tasmania and Mary Smith probably about 1847, I know nothing else at all of his parents. I will send for the marriage certificate in hope that I might find some more information.
The previous marriage was to Louisa Linacre in Victoria.

It's possible that a 12 year old could marry..........??? ;-)

The ones on Ancestry do, but it may depend on the year. They won't say 'where' he worked, just what the occupation was.

As the names are listed alphabetically by surname, one can see that there is also a Mary White at the same address, occupation Home Duties.
There is no relationship to or about the Head of household or qualification for voting given against the peoples names.

Later ones give a more precise address. Unfortunatley, if someone with a different surname also lives there, it won't show up as a 'household', unlike the London ones on Ancestry. You'd have to look for them seperately

It may be possible to make an address search. If someone has tried that, they could advise.

I doubt that the ER's will give info about his occupation.......unless they differ from the UK version

There are ER's which give information, but its difficult to pin down which Thomas Henry White in Victoria is yours.

Do you have any idea when he had his 2nd marriage? Or when wife no. 1 died or divorced? What was 'her' name?

Surely his occupation will be recorded on the marriage cert.....................
