Happy New Year to all you Genes People - All the very best for 2013.
Searching for any connection (alive or deceased) for my family in France.
Spelling of the name may change, but mainly searching for a male family member. Unable to give name as waiting for Russian archives to confirm family forenames, but likely one deceased and buried somewhere in Northern France.
Any help would be appreciated. Have searched myself various cemetery listings in France, but due to geography and language problems - I am unable to pin point.
This one is a task, but thought it worth a try.
I am aware a family member died in France approx. 1950's or late 1940's.
Many thanks to you wonderful helpers.

Hello,
Thank you so much. This person is probably a relative, but not the person I am looking for. George.
We can say that the person is possibly a Anastasiy Mikhailovich or Alexander Mikhailovich who I seek. There is no doubt that Georgi Michaelovich Politov is part of the family I am seeking.
We are trying to establish the brother who went to France and reappeared after WW2 as a possible displaced person.
The information you have given is much appreciated, but can you say where you obtained this from.
Thank you AnnCardiff.
Will hang on for a while, then I am off to bed.

Ann
I am overwhelmed with this information, but before I get carried away I need to confirm that Alexander Mikhailovitch was Alexander Mikhailovitch POLITOV.
The Russian naming system indicates no connection, but I need to get it confirmed.
I am so very, very grateful once again to you for the information regardless if we have a close connection. Today (of all days) when I have received my letters from Moscow Archives confirming my family. Due to the uprising years my father and his twin sister's records are lost, but we have news of the marriages and births of my family.
I think we are not 'grand enough' - this is unlikely to be my family as they are NOT Politov/Politoff. How exciting though that you should find such information.
Thank you again.
Will keep looking. It is important for me to find the French family as it was my grandmother's brother and we need a first name to confirm.
You are so appreciated.
Thanks again

Burrrrr.
Well you certainly should be warm for what you have found out.
The Politov name appears in the Moscow directories in 1901 -1914 and there was only a handful - all related. I am so wanting to find the names of my grandmother's brothers born in Moscow. The family from the Crimea have been identified in Odessa and the coming to Russia where other children were born.
The uprising years showed they moved out of the troubled city and into other parts of Europe and the world. The brother I seek appears (from stories told to me as a child) moved to France or found himself in that country probably due to war or may even have been there prior to WW2. We know he died there, but no death or burial information. This is what I seek if, at all possible. It may be the name has changed to Politoff from the original spelling or even angalised to (??).
Your information has been most interesting and I have searched the names of the Grand Duke, but I know this is not my family.
Thank you and let me know if anything else comes to mind.
Keep warm Ann.
Regards, Sappho

Hi Maria
There are address books for Moscow (on internet) for 1914 and 1917. they are called "vsya moskva".
I did a bit of research and noticed that there were von Rimscha in Moscow in both 1914 and 1917 but first and patronimic names do not match. they also had a "???????? ??? ?????" , like a department store under their name.
there are also few Politovs in Moscow as well. very interesting - they are not manufacturers of glass but are stated as sellers of mirrors.
sounds promising. if interested I can give you more details.

Hi Maria
The following appears in both address books for 1914 and 1917.
???.?????. ????????, ????????? 31, ????????. ????.
you have mentioned Afanasyevich. but here we have Anastavyevich. which is very close. could be typo. i have never seen anastasij as a male name. but everything is possible.
There is no Maria in the book.
I think you have asked about where to find information about life in Moscow during 1910- 1920. A lot happened, first world war, revolution. I actually went to the local libraries and borrowed books about this time. Then internet. You will be surprised how many books, essays, memoirs are published on internet. You will a huge insight in that time.
Do you need info on Rimsha? ReplyReport AbusePrint Re: Politov/Politova/Politoff mj7777 (View posts) Posted: 19 Aug 2011 7:04AM GMT Classification: Query Surnames:

Hi Maria
I do not have any relationship to your family. I just want to help people because I can read and write both languages, Russian and English. I have also have done research as I have russian background.
I came across few Russian genealogical websites and can easily do a quick search.
re Politov- translation from russian. THE name of person closest to your relative is Mihail Anastafyevich(patronimc name, ie name of his father - probably Anastas)Politov, living at Myasnitskaya Street , house 31, mirror seller.
re von Rimsha - there are 3 entries (2 appears in both years): Gergard Mihailovich, Trehsvyatitelskij pereulok(like street)14, trading house "Rimsha G"
and his daugther Elena? ( the name is shortened for the purposes of the book to two letters EL)Gergardovna (patronimic name , her father's)Politova. She has a "female gymnasium of L.N. Valitskoj "against her name. probably studied there.
If you want to write to Moscow archives, you have to do it in russian and there is a fee involved obviously. in your case, you might have some success as they need the name of the street where the person lived.
Nothing else came on internet (in russian). i will keep looking. something might pop up.
Also Friedrich von Rimsha obviously came from Germany as many germans invited by Catherine 2. Do a bit of research , may be you can find him and his ancestors in Germany ( check Germany message board, www.ancestry.de)
Good luck. ReplyReport AbusePrint Re: Politov/Politova/Politoff mj7777 (View posts) Posted: 19 Aug 2011 3:41PM GMT Classification: Query Surnames:

I have not been able to locate the person who has a message that they can perform genealogical search in Moscow. could you take me through the steps to find this. Have spent some time trying.
Many thanks, Maria
