Just in the passing. A few years ago I did some research for a colleague. He thought that his G. grandfather's name was Brian but his sister said it was Bernard. The man was Irish. In some records he was recorded as Brian and some as Bernard so these names seem to be interchangable like Isabella and Elizabeth are in Scotland? I have found the same with the names Patrick and Peter.

Afternoon rootgatherer,

I have noticed that and I have also come across several instances, where someone for some reason or another, has adopted a second christian name which was not on their birth certificate.

James...Have looked at what you have and I have located the Baptism of Mary Kennedy 1867 ..it is not on an image so the only details are year of Birth and area..Bluebell Clondalkin..

Bluebell .. is a small suburb of Dublin, Ireland, situated on the Southside of the city, approximately 6.5 kilometres south-west of Dublin city centre. The suburb borders Drimnagh to the east, Kylemore and Inchicore to the north, At the time in question it was a rural farming area.

I cannot find either Michael jnrs /Thomas' Baptisms or Michael snrs Marriage but not sure if they all are transcribed for Clondakin...that being said it appears there were Kennedy's and a few Cluskers around the areas...what I have found and again through sheer chance is the following for Rathfarnham...

Husband Wife .....April 1883.
Name JOHN MC DERMOTT MARY CLUSKER
Address 108 N KING ST RATHMINES
Occupation N/R N/R
Father MATTH MC DERMOTT ... **PATRICK CLUSKER **
Mother BRIGID TULLY.... **SUSAN CLARE ***

May or may not be of value ...there are no other records that I can find for them in the area...
There are No Kennedy's/Cluskers on 1901 Census for Clondalkin

OneFootInTheGrave Report 27 Jan 2013 14:39

Afternoon Eringobragh1916,

Finding Michael Kennedy and Margaret Clusker's parent is at the top of my list and that information on John McDermott and Mary Clusker may help, so I will have a look at the various Patrick Clusker's I have in my tree.

After the brutal suppression of the 1798 uprising by the British Forces many went into hiding and apart from the political trouble there was also the famine of the mid 1800's, as a consequence of the combination of the troubles and the famine, many many thousands left the country, either in fear of their lives or starvation, to seek a better life elsewhere, so tracing people from that time is no easy task.

Sadly, I have noted a few Clusker's who were incarcerated in Mountjoy Prison :-(

Eringobragh1916,

I looked in my tree as I knew I had come across the name McDermott before, this is probably a coincidence, but I have a Patrick Clusker born c1821 who married c1850, a Susan MacLare born c1820.

They has a son Bernard Clusker born c1870 who married a Josephine McDermott
born c1878:-

Church Marriage McDermott Josephine 1897 Co. Meath
Church Marriage Clusker Bernard 1897 Co. Meath

I have joined Irish Genealogy on the NET, and posted a query on a board there to try and find out if there are any connections between, Patrick Clusker/Susan MacLare; John McDermott/Mary Clusker; Michael Kennedy/Margaret Clusker; and Jane Dickie/Dickey.

Has to be worth a try :-)

Gins, Eringobragh1916, mgnv, and rootgatherer,

Thanks for all your various contributions, I have been slowly working my way through these and at long last I think I have got the Graham, the Watson, the Cumming, and the Burrow connections to the Clusker family sorted out and added to my tree.

Having said that I appear to have lost the plot while trying to work on this comment from and earlier post on this thread :-

"Going to Husband John Kennedy and Aunt Clusker"

I am still unable to find a connection linking the Kennedy family to the Clusker family, except the one below that I have previously mentioned.

However I do not have a Margaret Clusker in my tree, maybe I have missed something and it is staring me in the face :-(

Spouse Michael Kennedy
Child Michael Kennedy
Gender Male
Baptism/Christening date
Baptism/Christening place
Birth Date 07 Jun 1865
Birthplace 0802, CLONDALKIN, DUBLIN, IRELAND
Father's name Michael Kennedy
Mother's name Margaret Clusker

I'm not related to the older Cluskers, but I am related to the Grahams (Peter Graham & Agnes Watson), so I am a distant cousin of the children of Anthony Clusker & Agnes Graham, and the children of Peter Graham & Susan Clusker (4th cousin twice removed, according to my software).

re Peter Graham & Mary Watson - Mary's grandmother (Violet Hamilton) is my 4xgreat-grand aunt.

Mary was first married to John Gray they had 8 children, he died in 1878, then she married Peter Graham in 1880, they had 7 children that I know of.

I've got a little bit about the Cluskers, but I got most of it from familysearch.

If you have trouble reading the documents from SP, let the staff know, they are very helpful. I'm sure they will decipher the scrawl for you (there's a link on the site, about not being able to read the image).

Scozz - Thank you for that, interesting to find out that albeit distantly - we have a connection.

As to reading the certificate on SP, in he end I contacted SP and they provided me with clarification of the details.

In addition, thanks mainly to those who contributed to this thread, I have managed to sort out a lot of details in respect of Peter Graham & Mary Watson, if you want to have a look at my tree just PM me.

That said I still have several brick walls to knock down as I am still working away at trying to get definite proof of the connections linking the Kennedy family to the Clusker family and also details for the marriage in the USA of James P Clusker to Mary Bryant.

Thanks Again.

Jim
