Find Ancestors

Hello
I have today received the birth certificate of my 5 x grandfather Patrick madden.
His parents are stated as being Patrick Madden (labourer) and Bridget Madden, formerly Carlon.
The birth certificate is dated as 29th July, 1847, with their address as being 8 CHURCH LANE, in the district of ST GILES IN THE FIELDS, & ST GEORGE, BLOOMSBURY.

however I cannot find the family on either the 1841 or 1851 census, and more importantly I desperately want their marriage certificate but cannot find it in any of my searches!!!
Please can some kind soul see if they can help me find their marriage certificate?
I have a sneaky feeling they may have come over from Irelend but again have no idea of how to research this if that is the case.

I don't have his birth certificate.

September 1847 - could be a different Patrick so I will need to order the certificate. Do you have the reference please, or is that vol 1 page 53?

As for the death of Patrick senior yes it could be him. Again is that vol 1 pg 51?

Should I also look for a death certificate of Bridget as I cannot find her in the 1851 census do you think?

Should I be concerned that the mothers maiden name is spelt as CARLON on the birth certificate which is different to the reference given by you Alveigal, which is CARLLIN?

The name Madden seems to change at will through the census which is most exasperating, but yes I think that is the family Patchem. In the 1871 census the name changes again to MADDON !

Can someone tell me how accurate spellings of surnames are on birth certificates as the mothers maiden name is spelt as CARLON - is there a possibility it has been misspelt and should be CARLLIN?

Spelling can be very inaccurate.
If they are illiterate and speak with an Irish accent then anything is possible.

Ok I have looked for the death certificate of Bridget with every spelling I can think of for Madden / maddin / maddon / maddan but to no avail.
Can anyone else find it perhaps?

Can you post the 1871 census, or give us information about it?
It is not necessarily Patrick's death, and if it is, then Bridget could have remarried.
Did Patrick junior stay in the area?

In 1871 census Patrick junior is listed as George Maddon. George was his middle name I believe as he changes from George to Patrick throughout the census.
He is married to Fanny and they have a son, my GGG grandfather James Maddon.

However it is supposed to be spelt as Madden according to the certificates I have for James's birth and for the marriage certificate of fanny and George (AKA Patrick)

Also in the 1851 census I did find an entry - there is a widowed Catherine Madden 37 (1814) b Cork, Ireland, a charwoman. She is living with children James (13/1838), Thomas (11/1840), "Park" on the transcription but the image shows the abbreviation for Patirck (3/1848) all born London.
This ties in with the posting above by Alveigal possibly as the ages of Thomas and James would tie in but Catherine might be a 2nd wife as there is a considerable gap between James and Patrick?
