Hi I think bartholomew swift born 1874 is Mary annes brother one I've missed looks like same mother do you think if I send off for his birth cert it may give me more info on Ellen and where she is from . Mary Ann called one off her daughters Ellen who we called Nellie the other poss after great grandfather mother Margaret .

The answer is yes.

Quite often the marriages produce many children, this gives rise to many cousins with the same name. Put together with many female names being Mary or Margaret, etc. It is possible for two males having the same name being married to two women with the same forename. So to differentiate families the mmn is usually used on all parish records (and conversations) even after marriage.
