Why cant I find Johanna Hall in the 1891 census? Is it possibel (as Henry senior , her husband ,dies in 1884) after the 1881 census, and the children are fostered out? I'm wondering where their youngest children, Alice b 1875 and George b 1877( both born in st Pancras) also their elder brother, Thomas Henry b 1872
Ps I am aware an even younger child Louisa, died shortly after the 1881 census... I'm curious as to where George and Alice are. - for quick look-up 1891 census reference;-
Mother- Johanna 47yrs b Marylebone 1884
Alice would be 16yrs b st pancras 1875
George 14yrs b st pancras 1877
Thomas Henry -19yr b st pancras 1872.. (
Ps.. I've just noticed that in 1899, George's marriage certificate, his adress was given as living in SOUTH Tottenham if thats of any indication of the area they may have moved too... I'm really stuck! :-(

George might be the George H. Hall born 1878 London, living in Witley, Surrey in the Industrial Home for Destitute Boys.

And there's a Thomas Hall born 1873 living as a boarder in Islington (as a Shoeblack).

There's an Alice Hall b.1875 living in Stoke Newington, Hackney as a domestic servant. She's down as being born in Kentish Town, which is right next door to St.Pancras.

Still cant find George though, why wouldnt he be with his Mum? @ ChristineS(i dont think its the George H Hall in witley) as he doesnt have a middle name...where else could he be at 14 yrs old?.. are there any more George Hall b 1877 around the city?..maybe he is working around there.

Here's a rank outsider:

Geo. Hall living in Stratford, West Ham, born 1881 (the actual image is 16 not 10)
born Islington (St.Pancras is in the borough of Islington)

He's living with a William Wilson, who is a pawnbroker. George is an assistant pawnbroker.

Where did George get married?

Linda

Linda Report 11 Apr 2013 10:14

Hi Christina, he got married in Barnstaple, Devon in 1899....to Catherine Yeo..they had a child 5 years before the marriage in 1894, which I suppose could place him in that area around 1893?...although his older brother is a boarder in Islington in 1891...George turns back up in Hackney with his wife and children in 1901, and 1911 in Maitland Park St Pancras, London...Hid Mother was living as a housekeeper for her brother in law in Hackney 1891, so she was helping him bring up his children...I just cant see her putting her only child left in a home ( she lost 3 of her other children..early deaths)......The assistant pawn broker is interesting

Linda

Linda Report 11 Apr 2013 15:15

ps..Christina...are there any other wilson's in the family with them, or is it just William and George?

martynsue

martynsue Report 11 Apr 2013 18:13

linda could he have been in a hospital or the like,i do not know how to check the census for hospital patient's,
on family search there are alot of george hall's who are in institution's,it would be a trek to look through them as there are 5,000+ entries.
