I've just found out much more info about my Wise family from Kent... Going all the way back through the Theobalds/Farley/Shrubsoll etc... Regarding the Shrubsoll surname: Dennis or Denise Shrubsoll, she was born abt 1629 in Kent, she married: George Tibball (Theobalds). Her parents were: Edward Shrubsoll and Marie Hinderson. Now comes the interesting bit: Edward Shrubsoll parents were Richard Shrubsoll born abt 1581 ? and Dorothy Hales also from Kent. Dorothy Hales parents were: Sir Charles Hales and Anne Honywood, wow! But is it true/correct ? Can anyone help me confirm this, would be great if this is part of my family tree.

GHeather Report 7 Apr 2013 14:56

I think Sir Charles Hales was born about 1545, but yes, the big question did he have a daughter: Dorothy Hales who married Richard Shrubsoll, the surname may also be seen written as Shrubsole.

The Family of Sir Charles Hales, Knight of Thanington, Kent, England.

NOTE

There is much speculation amongst Hale genealogists of a family connection between Sir Charles HALES of Thanington and Deacon Robert HALE (see tree below), however I know of no documentary evidence proving this link. Research suggests that Sir Charles was definitely a HALES with an "S". Certainly John Burke's "Genealogical and Heraldic History of Extinct and Dormant Baronetcies of England, Ireland and Scotland" (published 1844) traces Sir Charles' family through to 1824 under the name HALES.

The following outline tree of Sir Charles HALES' family has been partly extracted from I.G.I births and baptisms, some of which appear to have been compiled from unproven sources. At this stage I have little documentary evidence to prove the following family outline. This tree is intended as a guide only, and has not been independently verified. Further research is required to produce an accurate family tree.

So, to sum up: Edward Shrubsoll married Marie Hinderson in Kent, I know this part is correct. But Who were Edwards parents ? Richard Shrubsoll and Dorothy Hales ? Were here parents: Sir Charles Hales and Anne Honywood ? Going that far back is not easy to find this info.

Looking at the above info it seems a Dorothy (her first name speltd differently) Hales, did married a Shrubsole. So, perhaps it is correct/true after all. Still need to confirm it fully, but looking good at the moment.
