Miranda - sometime we have to come forward in time to check the facts before we can go back with confidence.

Miranda

Miranda Report 4 May 2013 20:24

are you able to view my tree to help me out at all??

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 4 May 2013 20:26

Miranda, the easiest way is if you tell us who you are working back from.

I'm sorry if this is going to confuse you further but there is conflicting information. You posted the 1901 for John T Hynan who was a visitor with the Longleys. However, the Woolley family from 1901 also have a Thomas and Sarah Jane recorded. Looks like they've been recorded under their mother's married name:

WOOLBY, William Head Married M 53 1848 Iron Moulder Bilston, Staffordshire
WOOLBY, Sarah Wife Married F 46 1855 Ireland
WOOLBY, Clara Daughter F 13 1888 Manchester, Lancashire
WOOLBY, Elizabeth Daughter F 15 1886 Cloth Weaver Manchester, Lancashire
WOOLBY, Sarah Jane Daughter F 22 1879 Cloth Weaver Manchester, Lancashire
WOOLBY, John Thomas Son M 23 1878 Core Maker (Iron Works) Manchester, Lancashire

Piece: 3691 Folio: 50 Page: 4
Registration District: Chorlton
Civil Parish: Gorton

Address: 23, Abbey Hey Lane, Gorton County: Lancashire

(Surname has been mis-transcribed - is Woolley on image).

It's possible that John T was double counted on the census - he may have been visiting on the night of the census but his mother recorded him anyway at her address. It could be a similar situation with Sarah Jane.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 4 May 2013 20:39

OK - let's work back from John Joseph, where was he born?

MarieCeleste Report 4 May 2013 20:48

I'm not finding a birth that's a close match for that death ...

Miranda - do you have John Joseph and Bridget Nora's marriage certificate?

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 4 May 2013 20:52

I think Miranda may have his birthplace as Limerick, but this birth is 3 years out:

Ireland, Civil Registration Births Index, 1864-1958
Name: John Joseph Hynan
Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1918
Registration district: Limerick
Birth Country: Ireland
Volume: 5
Page: 331
FHL Film Number: 101075

EDIT: The birthdate given on a death registration is only as good as the informant's knowledge so isn't 100% reliable (I know, because I gave the wrong date for my father).

Miranda I'm trying to track back from your birth, I think I can see where the problem is but I think we need more info on what you are sure of, in terms of your grandfather and his father's names and dates of marriages whether you have any certificates to confirm.

Laurence Hynan 1925 Tipperary, Ireland ...

Miranda, do you have Laurence's birth cert ? I assume this is the right one who married 1951, are you taking his fathers name from marriage cert?

Miranda

Miranda Report 4 May 2013 21:48

no i dont have any of the birth or marrage certificates..

marie celeste i think you may be right..he is from limerick

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 4 May 2013 21:49

I think this could be the marriage of John and Bridget:

Ireland, Civil Registration Marriages Index, 1845-1958

Name: John Hynan
Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1919
Registration district: Tipperary
Volume: 3
Page Number: 470

Records on Page:
Name
John Hynan
Bridget Leahy
Richard O'Keeffe
Mary Ryan
Stephen O'Meara
Bridget Egan ?????
Florence Meehan
Mary A Cleary

Rambling Report 4 May 2013 21:55

You would really need to have the certs to confirm who Laurence's parents are though, unless family is absolutely sure of the names.?

Miranda

Miranda Report 4 May 2013 21:59

my family are sure laurences parents are correct names

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 4 May 2013 22:04

Miranda, I think the names are correct but the birth years are wrong. If Laurence was born 1925/26 then his parents would not have been born 1915 and 1913. I think that 1919 marriage I posted for his parents is more likely.

It's impossible to do family research without having to buy some certificates to get further information.

Miranda

Miranda Report 4 May 2013 22:05

ok so their birth dates are wrong it seems how do i find them

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 4 May 2013 22:11

Buy their marriage certificate to check their ages when they married, as per that 1919 I posted.

Here's a link for Irish certs:

If you order UK certificates they're from GRO:

Do you have any idea when/where John Joseph and Bridget Nora died? I can see them on London electoral rolls but no other records.
