I am trying to find out who George Birkett born 1858, Shelby, Illinois, USA married. He died in 1954 and is buried at Wichta, Sedgwick County, Kansas, USA

George is the son of Skelton Birkett and Mary Bland.

I have found a burial record on Find a Grave website and it tells me that he had a daughter Florence Agnes Birkett who was born in 1891 in Kansas, USA.

On a burial record I have for Florence she married Ebin Walter Pyle born 1882 in Kansas USA. He died 1953 and they are both buried in Wichta, Sedgwick County Kansas, USA. They married in 1912.

On a write up on both records it says that her home before her marriage was Seatle, Washington, USA and that they had two daughter Mary Ruth and Margaret

On the original of this census I think the initial is G, not S

EDIT: Perhaps not, I think he's called Skelton on the 1880.

Have removed 1900 census for a family in Iowa that was not them.

I've just realised that Rachel say's George's father is called Skelton. Might he have been named for his father but changed it to George? The 1901 that I posted above has a lot of scribbling for the initial which seems to change from an S to a G?

Rachel, are you 100% that George and Skelton are brothers and not the same person?

It's just such a huge coincidence that Grace Gleason and daughter Florence are also in Seattle Washington in 1910 where your Florence was just before she married .......

EDIT: Yes - I see from the 1870 that they are brothers, oh well!

Yes George definitely had a brother Skelton as I have two write ups on Skelton Birkett Senior born 1820 in Cumberland, England who married Mary Bland and later married Elizabeth Lenover. In the write up it lists all his children.

Hi Rachel - I do agree that they are 2 different people (have posted the 1870 above).

I'm still not 100% convinced on the accuracy of the FindAGrave transcription, bearing in mind that they're not official records and are possible prone to mis-transcription and human error.

Re Findagrave...
George Skelton is on the family grave with his parents stating he died in 1954.
Florence A Pyle is also buried here.
However, there is no evidence that George was Florence's father.
I am guessing that the person who updated the info, assumed that they were father and daughter... there is no real evidence.

Now for the confusion....

George was last found in Missouri, which does seem to be where SKELTON's remains are held!

Does this mean that George lived as Skelton and vice versa, because their profiles match each other right up until.... they died... and then reverted to their original names.
It's a cunundrem right enough!

Well, if Grace was married to Skelton they certainly separated at some point as evidenced by the census records. I wonder if that's why his cremains (is that an American term?) were unclaimed?

Could it be that George was a loved uncle who stayed close to his niece so they're all buried in the family plot?

Must admit I had to go on Google maps to check out the locations - Kansas city is slap bang on the border of states Kansas and Missouri.

EH No ! Looks like Skelton was simply not on the 1910 return, as he was in Kansas with his son Harold!
I have moved on to US Diectories and Skelton, Grace G and son, Donald Sketon are all still in Seattle at 1922
