Yet on Eliza's marraige certs to both Robert Humm and Willaim Charle Leary she states her fathers name is HIGGS...?...

my thoughts was that her mother was first married to a Higgs then she married a Leary and her children took the name Leary...

Then I know that when Eliza 's husband Robert died she married William Charles Leary ....her step brother...he was also a lot younger than her and I do remember him William Charles Leary but not Rliza as she had died .

Ha Ha ,,,it gets better Willaim Charles Leary was a polish jew who adopted this name ...his real name is Schnackenberg.....

On her marriage to Humm she states her father as Edward Leary. On her marriage to William Leary she states her father as Edward Higgs.

Yep...I do remember him well...although i was young then....I have always known his real name...he never used it...and always went by the name of Leary...my brother swapped his war medals for 2 white mice....!!...lol....but thats another story...!!...lol...

Irish potato famine was in 1845 so maybe it was Eliza Higgs senior whose family was affected by it.

Are you saying the picture you have of Eliza Leary/Higgs is in Ireland during the potato famine, because the one we seem to have found is supposedly from Middlesex???

Eliza Leary is my great grandmother

My grandmother Elizabeth Humm died when my mum was ten so her grandmother Eliza Leary bought the children up with her husband William Charles Leary.....apparently William was a lot younger than Eliza... :-)

In 1891, as posted by Maddie and Astra, William's born in Bethnal Green, and his father Edward in Spitalfields.
Edward's traceable as Leary in all censuses including 1841 (mistranscribed Larry on Ancestry), and his father Michael was born in Middlesex. (Aldgate, in 1861 census).

Eliza was born in Middx ...I guess her mother may be Irish with regards to the potatoe famine...I don't think Eliza moved out of the East End...too busy deliverying babies...and taking in washing ...she couldn't read or write and failed her exams as a midwife....but was on hand to help the registered midwife when she wasn't around...lol....ah well back to the elusive EDWARD HIGGS...whoever he might be..?...guess it could be a mistake and Eliza could have given her mothers maiden name ..lol... :-)
