I am looking for a Jeanie Adams Alexander, I have no idea of birth date but she had an illegitimate child in 1928 called Mary Alexander when she was working as a servant, the child was called Mary Alexander who was born in Goole, Yorkshire. Jeanies parents I believe were called William (1874-1956) and Annie (or Ann) Alexander, William was originally from Scotland and eventually ended up living in Goole, both William and Annie died in Goole, as far as I am aware William was a Journeyman Joiner. Jeanie went to London were she worked as a servant and the trail ends there, I know that Mary visited her mother in London when she was an adult but always thought she was her sister, Mary was brought up by her grandparents believing them to be her parents. Does anyone have any info on this family, Regards, Ellie.

Hi Ellie, if you can find William and Annie's marriage then that will give you Annie's maiden name which in turn may help pinpoint Jeanie's birth.

EDIT: Do you know if William came from Scotland before or after marriage?

Is the 1946 death correct, as birth in 1896 possibly too late?

Would really like to find this little lady in 1911. Maybe not related but at least we could rule her out as a sister to Jeanie??

Really strange that 1910 posting as if you go the long way round and look at 1910 1st qtr for letter A then it is not listed at all under Alexander

All though this second one would have been 22 years younger than William and hardly old enough to be a grandmother in 1928 - though not impossible if she had married very young.

Although, the other one would have been 54 when Mary born, so surely too old to have been thought of as her mother? How sure are you about the William/Ann(ie) grandparents you think brought up Mary?

Did Mary marry Lewis Smith in 1949 and have 3 sons between 1950 and 1959?

ADDED: Sorry Pat, I see you have already posted these 2 deaths.

Thank you all for the replies, the census post for 1911 looks interesting, it is thought that Mary's father may have been a doctor!

The story goes, she was a servant in London, got pregnant, came to parents in Goole to have baby, left baby with parents, went back to London, think before Mary left school was told Jeanie was her mother (until then she thought she was her sister) this was after one of her school friends commented on how old her parents were, when about 18 went to Kensington in London to see Jeanie, she was still a servant (this must have been around 1946) Mary married Lewis Smith and had 3 sons, the youngest is my brother in law whom I'm doing the research.

I cant find a marriage so am assuming they married in Scotland, Mary signed her grandfathers death certificate, we think Jeanie was born in Scotland and probably an only child as Mary never spoke of any relatives other than those mentioned, we do have a photo and on the reverse it says 'to uncle bill and aunt annie and wee mary from nephew Eddie. My brother in law remembers visiting Dunblane in Scotland as a child to see a relative, this could have been Eddie. We do not know anything more about Eddie, not even a surname.

I am very grateful to all that have responded and for the information you have so kindly given.
