Margaret, hope you don't mind but I noticed Derek's Derbyshire Parish Records thread was showing just below this on the board, so I have posted asking him if he can find the 1867 marriage.

So James Lloyd - father of Frederick - must be the brother of Mary Ann's father. I'll tootle on back and see what I can find.

Can trace Frederick back to 1881 - always in Derbshire: all born Derby

That is an interesting coincidence, Margaret. Lets try to trace Frederick back!

Potty - you are not going to believe this but on 1911 census for George Henry Brindley and wife Clara they have two family members living with them - one Francis Prestbury (Clara's brother) and Frederick LLOYD a cousin !!!

Margaret, going back to the earlier Derbyshire connection, I can find a possible marriage for a Thomas Brindley and a Mary Ann LLoyd in Derby in 1867 - might be worth bearing in mind, but, as you say, the birth cert is really needed.

Thank you all for your great effortgs. I think you are right, I will have to purchase that cert to conclusively establish the maiden name. One thing puzzles me though looking at the info on the census returns posted by Mel - why was George in the Industrial School and then all over the country working when the rest of the other siblings were closeted at home ? Was he ill - or is this a different family. Most confusing !!! Tha nk you all again.

I am wondering if there was an earlier Derbyshire connection; the only bmd ref I can find for Rosanna before 1881 is this birth:

On the 1901 census it looks like his occupation is Driller at clinder works. It has Master written over the top.

Gosh you can find info quicker than I can type a reply. Thank you for the aboive replies which confirms my Thomas/Mary Ann supposition. What a shame the other children were'nt born by 1871 - it would have opened the way for progress. I shall now have to search for a marriage somewhere around 1869 onwards and hope it was the same area. Thank you all
