Tawny .............

the girls would have gone into the Workhouse, or possibly an orphanage, as that was the only place then.

There was no support from the State, such as now happens.

You should look to see if there was a local Workhouse, and see what you can find out.

Thank you for the christenings for Mary Anne, Elizabeth Alice and Sophia. That is Mary Ann with her family on the 1881 census and Daniel and Sarah's marriage. Sarah died in 1881 and Daniel in 1883. After the deaths of their parents and older sister Kate and Elizabeth Alice were most likely taken in by the state as no-one was able to take them in. Their brother Henry was taken in by his brother in law as he was 14/15 and able to work and earn reasonable money.

Jesse James christening gives his mother as Mary Ann Clarke though I am waiting on a birth cert to confirm. It is Mary Ann's family that I am descended from her father was Daniel Clarke and her mother Sarah Lovett. Due to the ages that most of the family died at it has made me very interested to see if any of the other siblings had children.

Mary Ann was one of six children of those six only two of them saw their 21st birthday. Their mother died at around 37 and their father at 44. Of the two children who saw their 21st birthday one died at 37 and the other made it to 64.
