Subsequent children Reg. Doncaster show 5 boys and 1 girl (Lilian b 1924).

I have ordered the marriage certificate now, so I will soon find out the name of my granddads father.

George won't be on the 1901 census as his military records show that he served in South Africa during the Boer War

I think his mum was called Elizabeth because my mum Mary Elizabeth Ethel Harper was given her Grandmothers first names as her middle names. Ethel is the name of my mums grandmother Lilian's Dawsons mum.

This has been very badly mistranscibed but does prove that the marriage I posted was a George and Elizabeth

George's father is given as George and his mother Mary.

I think getting the marriage certificate first as Rootgatherer suggested would be your best bet as that will name his father. If you order any birth certificate without knowing his father's name it could be the wrong one.

As his daughter had Elizabeth as a middle name, this is a possibility BUT as Chris has said, get his marriage certificate first to make sure that you research the correct family.

You could order his marriage certificate as that would name his father. This should confirm that any birth certificate you order is the correct one.

You can search freebmd putting in the surname Harper, Leese for mothers maiden name with quite a few years either side of 1920 and see if there are any other births. I'v already done that and also looked for marriages of the parents but there are two possible couples.

He married Lilian Dawson in Edlington South Yorkshire. They had 7 children 6 boys and 1 girl. The girl is called Mary Elizabeth Ethel harper.
